A good effort, though it almost physicially hurts to see a librarian use "quality" as an adjective. posted by Miko at 7:26 PM on January 3, 2006
Bookmarked -- thanks!
Miko, the language changes, and turning nouns into adjectives is an ancient habit of English; get used to it. posted by languagehat at 4:25 AM on January 4, 2006
languagehat, you know that I'm familiar with your philosophy, and if you've ever read any of my comments in any of these discussions, you'll know that I recognize its points but will never completely accept it. You also know that my outlook on language is widely shared in the world of the written word. You don't have a monopoly on usage. Get used to it. posted by Miko at 7:06 AM on January 4, 2006
Heh. Fair enough, and look: we're giving mmahaffie well-deserved extra comments, even if off-topic! posted by languagehat at 7:33 AM on January 4, 2006
Sheesh, I remember when there weren't music research materials online, and one had to slog through Duckles and RILM and probably a few entries from Grove's just to figure out where to find the information you need.
I'd like to say dinosaurs were just dying out at the time, but it was only about a decade ago. You kids just learning about musicology don't know how good you've got it. posted by ilsa at 11:13 AM on January 4, 2006

Yeah -- and these really are excellent resources. I particularly like the ethnomusicological index and the "Lift Every Voice."
Despite not having garnered many comments, this is a very good post that I'll be exploring for a while. Thanks. posted by Miko at 7:10 AM on January 5, 2006
