Emperor Penguins Uber Alles!

Why are political extremists so interested in UFOs? The Nation of Islam has its “Great Mother Wheels.” Their melanin-challenged brethren in the Neo-Nazi movement have the myth of Neu Schwabenland, an Antarctic redoubt where the remnants of the Third Reich fled after the war, with the U.S. military in hot pursuit. There, hidden among the ice and the Emperor Penguins, the frostbitten Aryans plotted to reconquer the world. To that end, they created a fleet of UFOs, using top-secret Nazi technology that They don’t want you to know about. Nizkor has recreated pamphlets published by the Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel on this topic, one of which includes a helpful list of German phrases to be used during an encounter of the Third Kind. (This myth is also covered in the eighth chapter of this book.)

It's worth noting that crazies with no political agenda are interested in UFO's too, and arguably a much greater percentage of generic crazies are into them then political extremists.

That said, I dunno.

Because they're already batshit insane? UFO belief is just one more small step on the continuum.

From the "Official U.F.O Investigator Pass:"

The most frequently observed shapes of U.F.O.'s, as reported from around the world. Note similarity to actual German Flying Saucers.

Oh! That's why they look so familiar.

Not that I believe in UFOs, but it's interesting to think that UFO == crackpot could be a form of disinformation serving some ulterior motive. Wow, and believing such a thing makes one a crackpot. Yeesh... damn you government, and your secret cabal!

I believe there are unidentified objects. And they can fly.

Most of the ultra hard core UFO geeks are actually reaching back to the ur-UFO mythology, were people claimed to meet Nordics who had some relationship to hollow earth believers. This is kickin' it old school.

Any political ideology that follows the plot of a Clive Cusser novel too closely is...well, hilarious.

The truth ... about the Jews ... is out there.

I want to believe ... that the Holocaust never happened.

In space, nobody can hear you scream ... that the Jews are the cause of all the world's wars.

Keep watching the skies ... for flying International Bankers.

I think this is where someone should point out that Bush believes in the Rapture and that God talks to him. Reagan consulted astrologers.

I've just come from Agarttha and after a long chat with the Seven Kings of the Deros I can safely say that there are no secret masters and everything is all okay. Just keep drinking the tap water mmkay? Oh, and stay away from any large lakes in the next couple of weeks too.

I would say the correlation is some sort of compensatory mythological need in the subconsciousness of tribes that is driven by fear, suspicion and ignorance. And is an element of what Jung called zee collective unconscious.

One thousand years ago and before, things in the sky were angels. That was the frame of reference. The unknown, the creator, the afterlife was their realm.

Today, angles are so "has been" and the unknown, creators, and powerful are now aliens. This is our frame of reference. We are seeing the same things we've always seen, we just think about them differently.
