The ultimate in passive communication. A time capsule doesn't say I love you like a time-delayed email.

Currently, Time Cave accepts messages to be sent as far away as December 31, 2010.

Only four years into the future? Meh. Reminds me of that South Park where they find an iceman who was frozen only three years ago.

Funny. I was going to create a site like this about 5 years ago and never did because I couldn't determine the business model to make it worth my while.

Anyway, if I need this, I have servers and my own 'at' and 'cron' jobs.

I should probably use this to tell her I was sorry.

Can these be canceled? If not, this would be a one way to force yourself to do something you otherwise never get around to. Get drunk and write a horrible future "fuck you" to the boss at a job you hate but can't make yourself quit, or to the bf/gf you must dump or you'll go crazy. Or send an "I love you" message to someone you can't get up the nerve to make a move on. Like pulling the pin on the life grenade.

With a much longer window, this could be useful/interesting.

John: "I'm finally gonna tell my wife about the affair"
Rick: "What? Dude, don't tell. You NEVER tell."
John: "You didn't let me finish. I'm going to tell her... 30 years from now! That way I get to confess now, clear my guilt, and then worry about it later"

30 years later, at rest home

Linda:"John, who's the hell is Carol?"

On preview: pracowity: "Like pulling the pin on the life grenade.". What a great turn of phrase. Consider it stolen.

Dude. Thanks for giving Adam Sandler the premise for another insufferable in flight movie.

(But it is a great idea).

barjo: So the rapture letters will go out after the rapture... or after the guy that runs that small web site dies or loses interest.

I wish I could just slap this guy right in the face.

43things.com already pretty much does this, right? At least, for up to a year.

I knew I'd first heard of FutureMe.org through metafilter. Kind of surprised it hasn't been brought up yet. Now if I can only remember where I'd seen this...
