It being the 5th of November and that… here's a bit of fireworks nostalgia.

Perhaps some explanation of what the importance of Nov. 5 is would be in order? And yes, I did look at the page and saw it was mentioned several times but without any reason behind it, did I miss something?

Sorry about that fenriq. I kind of assumed that the popularity of V for Vendetta would have made the events pretty well known.

Nope.

Ahh, thanks Tellurian. V for Vendetta is on my Netflix but we haven't gotten there yet.

It might be nice to take a trip to the UK for Guy Fawkes Day next year, assuming the DHS will allow me to leave the country.

Remember, remember the fifth of November,
the gunpowder treason and plot.
i can think of no reason
the gun powder treason
should ever be forgot.

homunculus: No, you may not do that, but you may do one watering can instead.

I hate when my faith in the literacy of MeFi gets shaken. :/

Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the posts and the comments; and there was a great calm.

Fenriq, at the risk of sounding slightly snobbish, I strongly recommend reading the graphic novel before (or instead of) seeng the movie. The film doesn't follow the story very well at all.

It's my birthday, too!

I find it unfortunate that V for Vendetta could not have been released on its original intended date of 11/5/05.

It's my birthday three!

Matter of fact, I spent this one in the UK, just because.

mrbill, that is indeed unfortunate. I had the eleventh of May 2005 free. I ended up celebrating the Superiorship of Mary with the Vocationist Fathers and Sisters. Date formats suck, do they not? This was a bit of a throwaway post, but I was was feeling nostalgic for the Old Dart (the only country that celebrates Guy Fawkes openly). Anyway - Many Happy Returns to mrbill and eriko. Hip, Hip. Hooray.

fenriq at least is not being willful about it. Elsewhere, the times they are a-changin'.

It's a historically dissipated pogrom against Catholics.

Thanks, Tellurian. I was in Lewes this year (as most years), and it was a fine spectacle.
