Street Studio at Burning Man

Photographer Clay Enos does his thing at Burning Man....Burning Man is an event that is always going to attract interesting individuals. What better place to set up a "street studio". (some images NSFW)
The light there's perfect for this. Julian Supersnail used to do similar shots, though typically with a much wider-angle lens. I enjoy Burning Man fashion when it involves actual clothes.
(Cue all the typical Burning Man thread comments, like "Crap, another Burning Man thread?" and "I've never been, but after seeing these shots I have no desire to go," etc.)

Ugh. Seeing those playa-dust-covered feet makes me think of bleeding and cracking all over again.
I remember a few of those folks...

So, Burning Man is pretty much like the Rocky Mountain Testicle Festival, but instead of naked wasted old Harley bikers it's naked wasted webmasters and artists, right?

I've never been to either, but waked wasted old Harley bikers sounds way better than naked webmasters and artists.

"Can you confirm the large, cataclysmic flames and smoke as being an art project?"
and,
"We are not here to keep people from being stupid. Once they are stupid, we will pick up the pieces."
That said, the playa does make people beautiful, in an odd sort of way.

These people remind me why I hate clothes: when you wear them too long, you begin to look horrible without them.

Reminds me a bit of the Woodford Folk Festival before it went and got all commercial. Right down to the burnination!
Nebulawindphone: Webmastering is the horrible nexus between the unflinching minutae of coding, the ignorant demands of site owners and the drooling wasteland that is the noobs and the toobs. I know it always made me wanna burn stuff.

The best part of Burning Man is going off into the Black Rock desert and being alone.

Burning Man makes it too easy. At CzechTek a couple of years ago the government broke up the festival with ~1,000 riot cops, tear gas, water cannon, and a fucking tank. Photos from that are quite spectacular, if a little hastily posed.

I heard they had one of those at Burning Man, too.
$5 cover, and $60 to get out.

It's interesting to look at this post in comparison to the one sitting just below it on the front page. Is it more compelling to look at slick pictures of Individuals, who want desperately to be seen, or groups of everyday folks who have no idea any stranger is going to be looking at them.
They're both fascinating, but for some reason I think I'm moved more by those amateur group pics.

I always thought Burning Man sounded so great - a whole community springing up in the middle of the desert, sharing/trading only the commodities they brought with them in an eco-hippy-wonderlife sort of way. No money! hey! no money!
until i heard that you have to buy a ticket. since then, something just don't seem right.

I know Clay personally, as I work at the agency that represents his commercial work. I have been a metafilter reader for years, but only recently started posting, and this one definitely caught my attention. Clay is a great portrait artist, and his travel images are awesome too. Glad to see he is getting some recognition from mefi's all around the globe!
