Once, I dropped the internet right on my foot. I wasn't even wearing a steel-toed boot. That hurt. posted by dhartung at 4:54 PM on June 7, 2007 [1 favorite]
Cyber bullying, which is sometimes referred to as online social cruelty or electronic bullying, can involve:
* Sending mean, vulgar, or threatening messages or images;
* Posting sensitive, private information about another person;
* Pretending to be someone else in order to make that person look bad;
* Intentionally excluding someone from an online group (Willard, 2005).
Sounds like Metafilter to me. posted by danb at 4:57 PM on June 7, 2007 [1 favorite]
National Internet Safety Month? What kind of unpronounceable acronym does that produce?
Since this thing is aimed - amongst other things - at sexual exploitation of teenagers, wouldn't Juvenile Internet Safety Month be better? posted by UbuRoivas at 5:02 PM on June 7, 2007 [1 favorite]

Slashdot had a link to an interesting blog essay, which talked in part about how companies that sell filter software try to cach in on this by cranking up the scare talk. The comments are good. A marketoid from one of the companies gets in there and contests some of the guy's statements. It gets a little flamey. posted by BeerFilter at 5:06 PM on June 7, 2007
Personally, I always wear safety goggles when working with the internet, because you just never know and it is OSHA recommended. posted by 517 at 5:22 PM on June 7, 2007

I was looking to find a YouTube video of Norm Abram giving his "safety glasses" speech and was SHOCKED to discover that there is none! No wonder we need Internet Safety Month.
What about all the ways in which the Internet has made the world a safer place? Like by keeping all us weirdos those weirdos off the streets. posted by Rangeboy at 6:45 PM on June 7, 2007
Aw, come on, how dangerous can a series of tubes be?
I hear some content filtering company from Utah (where else?) can sell you internet protection insurance.
For a low monthly fee.
Just in case some dark skinned terraist decides to blow the tubes up or something ya' know. posted by nofundy at 12:03 PM on June 8, 2007
Well, everyone knows that the internet is a dark skinned Muslim man. Thus, clearly evil. The internet wants to bomb your innocent children, people. Someone needs to do something. Let's attack Finland. posted by miss lynnster at 12:35 PM on June 8, 2007
