Gotta say, for me the flight sim link was much, much funnier. But mostly that's a fantastic clip for pretty much anything to be subtitled. You could probably subtitle this thread onto that clip and it would be awesome.

Uhhhh... you might want to fix your tags. 'Cuz Anthony Hopkins was in The Bunker. Which was in English. And wasn't this. posted by miss lynnster at 10:22 PM on July 14, 2007
"don't worry, he's not that desperate" . . . slayed me when I first saw this. posted by Heywood Mogroot at 10:41 PM on July 14, 2007
Yeah ironmouth, when you speak German it's a bit lame. posted by jouke at 11:22 PM on July 14, 2007
hilarious. that's an excellent movie, by the way. posted by TrialByMedia at 11:27 PM on July 14, 2007
Yes, Heywood, in a field of just insanely quotable lines, that was by far the most inspired. posted by effugas at 11:31 PM on July 14, 2007
Not only do I find it not so very funny because I speak German, I also find it almost impossible to read the subtitles as if they were spoken while hearing something completely different at the same time. The perceptive dissonance is too much for me! posted by Glow Bucket at 12:17 AM on July 15, 2007

I LOL'ed. I especially liked the bit where Hitler goes "I may even buy a PS3" and the chick saying "Don't worry. He's not that desperate."

Not funny if you speak German.

The ENTIRE goddamn "You know who else liked X?" where X=Hitler thing? Is stupid. Played out. IT IS NOT FUNNY. And why people think it is, I don't understand, except that some people don't have the humor comprehension that God gave to the pierogies in my freezer. posted by mephron at 8:22 AM on July 15, 2007

mephron, the problem with your analysis is that the X does not equal Hitler. The "who else" part is Hitler. You know who else made such mistakes? posted by donkeymon at 9:38 AM on July 15, 2007 [11 favorites]

Perhaps it's because I've already seen Downfall, but I found myself absolutely riveted by my understanding of what was actually happening, and unable to pay any attention to the subtitles. posted by thejoshu at 1:46 PM on July 15, 2007
The Sheffield United one is funny but is ultimately ruined by the dullard who made it having seemingly never heard of an apostrophe. posted by TheDonF at 2:27 PM on July 15, 2007

Something is humorous. And then it's played out. And then by sheer force of repetition, it's funny again, but now it's not funny for what it was originally funny, now it's funny because it's being driven into the ground and whipped like a dead horse rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, and only then, after all of that, does it cease being funny.
Then, a few years later, it's funny again, but this time it's nostalgia-funny. It gets funny again, originally funny, a few years later, when it's turned into a musical. posted by Cool Papa Bell at 9:02 PM on July 15, 2007
For the record, this is the first time I've ever seen Hitler made hilarious. Something about Microsoft pwning Hitler just APPEALS. posted by effugas at 9:32 PM on July 15, 2007
