I had no idea that song was so long. Awesome entrance, and again at 2:15. posted by OmieWise at 10:38 AM on July 24, 2007
The Miss Black America pageant seems to be both separate AND equal (especially in funding and coverage) to the Miss America pageant. Props to the SCOTUS who made this possible! posted by DU at 10:39 AM on July 24, 2007
This post made me happier than you ever could, Chasfile.
It's is SO AMAZING to see drag shows where they don't just phone it in, letting their makeup and outfits be "the show" and doing nothing but lazy lipsynch. This belongs at Wigstock, it's that great.
That's 4 minutes of incredibly taxing dancing too- and Superman and Wonder Sistah were perfectly in synch. Just fucking BRILLIANT.
Now they say you don't tug on Superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off an 'ole Lone Ranger
And you don't mess around with Wonder Sistah posted by brneyedgrl at 11:01 AM on July 24, 2007
So that's the ending to Napoleon Dynamite. posted by dhartung at 11:06 AM on July 24, 2007
WOW.
I actually didn't like the splits-based moves so much -- too ragdoll for me, but I recognize the difficulty. And the rest of the routine -- any word I try doesn't do it justice. posted by dreamsign at 11:09 AM on July 24, 2007

I'm confused. Miss Black Americaseems to be a real pagent, (albeit with a lousy website). Oprah was Miss Black Tennesee in in 1971.
Where are folks getting "drag show" out of this? (Besides, I mean, from the vibe in the performance itself...) posted by anastasiav at 11:13 AM on July 24, 2007
Yes really, we think this post rocks.
If you don't like it, flag it. Don't shit in the thread, especially when everyone before your comment already seemed to like it.
But OUCH. Awesome performance but that entrance was totally amazing. This is on the list of things I can confidently say I will NEVER find myself doing. posted by Stunt at 11:18 AM on July 24, 2007

First, anyone is free to say they like or dislike post content. It's debating fpp-worthiness that belongs in the gray. Second, I'll be damned if I'm gonna take the MeFi temperature to decide how I feel about something myself, and keep mum if it isn't in keeping with the majority.
Third, who the hell are you talking about? Everybody here loved the act. One person is asking about the drag-show label. All is good. posted by dreamsign at 11:33 AM on July 24, 2007
I think they practiced that a couple of times. posted by tkchrist at 11:34 AM on July 24, 2007
am i missing something here? What was so special about that vid?
was it good dancing, or good acrobatics, or good fitness? Or is there something else i'm not quite getting? posted by spacediver at 12:12 PM on July 24, 2007
Dreamsign: Yeah, it was that comment I was referring to.
I'm right on board with the rest of your comment though. I have no problem with someone saying they dislike something, and I equally have no problem with someone saying they dislike it even if most people seem to love it. I just get really annoyed by comments like that and feel that they should be in MeTa if posted at all.
And yeah, I should have just let it go =)
Watching the video again I have to repeat: ouch. I think the entrance is still what gets me the most. Falling into the splits? goddamn. posted by Stunt at 12:25 PM on July 24, 2007
What was so special about that vid?
The fabulous job that she does of hiding her candy. posted by PeterMcDermott at 12:31 PM on July 24, 2007
spacediver asked:
"What was so special about that vid?"
I'm tempted to ask, "can *you* do that?", but that's not really an answer.
It's not the "candy hiding" for me. It's the coordination between the two of them, their athleticism, the enjoyment clear on both their faces, and the fact that they are out, out, out and looking good doing it.
Watching that video makes me feel extremely lazy. Maybe I"ll go take a nap now... posted by MaryDellamorte at 3:08 PM on July 24, 2007
Loved the part when her partner threw her (...er, him) across the stage and he landed in a split.
I don't know what they had to remove to be able to do those splits, but that was Chuck-Norris-Approved Fully-Ass-Kicking. posted by Civil_Disobedient at 3:18 PM on July 24, 2007
