Goodness gracious, what is that?
It's Mr. Pugwash, my black cat.
Goodness gracious, are there others?
Yes indeed, my cat Carruthers.

Ann Widdecombe, December 2000.

And you Americans worry about your politicians?

The web site on which this nonsense is based is at Ann Widdecombe's personal site, which is a meme just waiting to happen. Eerie.

Genius Widdecombe link. Nice one.

If George "W" Bush was merely appointed Shadow President, instead of appointed President, I would be happy...BAD analogy.

Stop that talk of memes, evcgi: after all, they reproduce, which is something that Anne Widdecombe has taken a personal stand against.

(PP: not quite. While she was a junior Home Office minister during the last Tory regime, she gained some notoriety for insisting that prisoners were handcuffed to their beds while they gave birth. Compassionate conservatism in action.)

What does "surgeries" mean here?

"Surgeries" here means a consultation session with the members of her constituancy, where they can ask her/confront her on issues of their choice.

Anyone see her on Question Time last week... she really did try and run away with the entire show, not a good thing when you're trying to air sensible political debate.

Her and Paxo are always entertaining when they go toe to toe.

Oh come on, holgate. Everybody knows that a felon's ability to escape peaks during active labor. Before Anne Widdecombe, I'm sure that inmates were seducing prison guards just so they could have that opportunity to break out.

Any time I'm feeling down about the condition of America, I have only to think about the country that we won our independence from. Nothing against all you Britons, but I'm sure glad I'm here and not there.

It goes both ways. You don't seriously think Britain would want the US back, do you? After all, it's full of Americans now.

Oh, I dunno, anapestic: at least we voted out the right-wingers. Then again, instead of Howard and Widdecombe, we got Jack Straw, so I'll shut up.
