I have to admit, I didn't find him amusing. Not outside of the Ice Cream commercials he used to do, anyway. I did find the following quote from the article amusing:
"Varney died of lung cancer, said his attorney Hoot Gibson"
not because he died, but because his attorney is Hoot Gibson!
