Michael Mararian creates pen and ink drawings of mischievously macabre babies and children. Meet the dark and wicked little demons in his current exhibit or explore the world of childhood terrors in his phobias, foibles and fiends collection (scroll down a few) where humor and horror collide.

Humour and horror indeed. His work is very daring, and not necessarily in a bad way - it's just that my mind boggles at the thought that, someone, somewhere, might be letting their child model for this man.

I'm almost positive he's using photos, often quite old ones, as reference. Even if there were live models, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have them hold real severed limbs.

Michael Mararian's work kind of reminds me of Soothbrush.

Weird and macabre, and quite awesome. I found Pupaphobia to be exceptionally creepy.

Wow. I am glad he manages to make these seem funny, and not just gruesome, macabre, and weird. The babies are really cute. My favorite is the commando with the knife in his mouth and the Che t-shirt. Not really gruesome, but there is a look of intent in his eye.

This? This is how I perceive all children, all the time.

Definitely photo-referenced, not live-modeled. And very nice work.

I always thought that expression on the Gerber baby was creepy as hell and I'm glad to see that I'm not alone.
