Yeah, it's all well and good until you have to play the B riff. That "A string 2nd fret, D string 6th fret" stretch is a pain for those of us with horrible reach- can't I just fake it with a B7? It's a lot easier...

Personally I find it easier and more rewarding to avoid learning how to play guitar myself and just lend focus to people who already know how to play admirably, like Annie for example. Or Kristi or The Touch or this guy who's pretty damn phenomenal. Ever seen a guy play two guitars at the same time?

Why fake it by yourself when you can connect with others and have an eargasm? *smirk*

It's not really "faking" guitar skills, so much as learning something easy that sounds good. That's one of the great things about the guitar; there are lots of things you can do that sound good but are really pretty easy to play.

The opening riff of "Stairway to Heavan" is all any guitarist needs to know in order to impress someone.

If by "impress someone" you mean get thrown out of a guitar store. :)

I had trouble with that B riff, too. I find it helps if you make sure you're doing two things. Make sure the base of your index finger and the base of your pinky are the same distance from the neck. Make sure your thumb is placed somewhere behind the neck, somewhere under the B and/or G string and your wrist is straight.
