Vivendi buys mp3.com for $372m. The latest attempt to digest and assimilate those "damned elusive" music files.

I guess there was a grain of truth to this rumor after all. mp3.com must have been a better buy, though; they offer scads of independent, original content that can be silenced or exploited, instead of eMusic's 'the same music you can find at amazon.com, only full of washy artifacts' business model. (Yes, yes, TMBG and all that, but they're pretty much the only semi-major artists to offer original content on EM.)

Although I have reason to believe that this is a monumental waste of money, it does most likely have one very positive effect: It gets Michael Robertson off of the public stage...

Even more reason for the independent web to continue to thrive. This actually encourages me to build the things I want to, so indies have a real place to turn to...
