Thank you so much. What a treasure!

This is great!

I have made this goat my new desktop background.

I just wish the maps didn't require ExpressView, which is, like all such programs, much more annoying than just getting a jpg.

For anyone wondering about the gorilla poster, it says: "Bandits pave the way to Bolshevism! Keep away from those sub-humans!" (It's either Nazi or collaborationist propaganda.)

This poster for "Alpine fashion" is pretty spiffy.

Nice post, tellurian.

I've just now realised that this is the exact same music set that I posted previously. The labels having the same marks on them tipped me off. At least flapjax at midnite may be able to listen to them this time.

Thanks Ljubljana, I was hoping you'd pop in. Do you know what's going on here [santa helper?] and here [film or play?]
posted by tellurian at 11:24 PM on April 14, 2009

Hmmm.. Not entirely sure what the santa helper is, although he looks creepy. The text says: "Here you go kids: Bizjak cookies!" Not sure if Bizjak is a brand or a type of cookie. I'm pretty sure they don't exist anymore.

The film poster is all kinds of odd. The title of the movie is "Madame doesn't want a baby." (A Yugoslavian abortion comedy?) But even more mysterious is the text at the bottom: "Free Charleston lessons before every show! Don't be late!" The times are also written differently than today. You can see &frac12 5 for 4:30 -- something I've never seen before...

(Yeah, the fraction worked on preview. Should be "half 5.")

Speaking of Ljubljana, anyone else been there? It's pretty damn awesome, we stayed at Hotel Celica.
All the other Americans got terrified when 500 punks showed up outside to party around 10PM, but I thought it was great.

Thanks Ljubljana, this German translated [NSFW] page clears up the Charleston mention too.

Directed by Alexander Korda!

And it had Marlene Dietrich as an uncredited dancer in it!
Bizjak - Ah! biscuits. They're weird looking. I thought he was handing out cribbage boards. Looks like Bizjak cookies were amalgamated with Kras.

Oh, this is awesome. My great-grandparents and grandmother emigrated to the US from Novo Mesto, but they aren't around any more so my Slovenian and cultural knowledge is marginal at best. Sending this link off to my cousins. Thanks, tellurian!
