Adnan's World

Adnan Khashoggi was one of the high society news makers in the 80's, considered by some to be on Donald Trump's level. While things have gone alright for the Donald, Khashoggi hasn't done as well...

Khashoggi led a high society lifestyle, even as his finances were in shambles. He went from a life of luxury to prison in the United States within a short amount of time.

He is no stranger to political intrigues.

Now 74, he works as a consultant.

Don't be so sure about Trump doing "alright".

He does bad reality TV and he has a fragrance. He's a wig, a dress and some makeup away from being Elizabeth Taylor.

He seemed to get mentioned on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous every other week. Still, I tended to confuse him with Pia Zadora's husband.

FTFY.

The only above-the-fold link is Khashoggi's Wikipedia article? This is like an ObitFilter post for a guy who isn't dead yet.

rocket88 I agree what's "above-the-fold" needs to be dropped 2 lines at least.

You actually meant to make a post about Sho Kosugi, didn't you?

Now that's just mean.

This guy, again? I'm four days out of my Civil Procedure final, and Metafilter drags me back in.

You say, "fragrance"
I say, "odor"
You say, "financier"
I say, "ogre"
"Fragrance!"
"Odor!"
"Financier!"
"Ogre!"
Let's call the whole thing off.

The late, lamented Nest magazine once ran a very nice piece on the design of his private jet, which was predictably astonishing. I wish Nest could be found on the internet . . .

Is this some new variant on Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon that I don't know about?

I loved Nest. I have a complete run.

Rudy Giuliani isn't so hot these days, either. Maybe they could remake Bosom Buddies.

I remember this guy from an old Guinness Book of my childhood, for holding the record (at the time - early 80's edition?) for having paid the highest divorce settlement in history. An auspicious record, indeed.

From the wikipedia link:
American University used to have a prominent building named the Khashoggi Center but after he defaulted on his donation pledge, the school removed his name from the building.
Among other things, this building housed the campus bar, which certainly changed my life. So thanks for that, Adnan... I guess.

Khashoggi was way, way above the Donald; who bought his discarded toy.
