huh, I didn't even notice it, though I've always wondered how he does those bits where he's supposed to be his own cousin with the beard shaved off. I suppose it's all timing. posted by mathowie at 7:14 PM on March 8, 2010
ha, I never picked up on the fact that his cousin was beardless in those bits. I'm pretty unobservant I guess. posted by Think_Long at 7:25 PM on March 8, 2010
I was wondering how they were able to cover his beard during that sketch. I thought it might be akin to an actor wearing a "bald cap." They fooled me. posted by ericb at 7:25 PM on March 8, 2010

No, you're not truly sorry, and fuck you, Hulu. posted by bwg at 7:32 PM on March 8, 2010 [17 favorites]
With the video just going dead silent, that was a supremely weird thing to watch without having seen that episode. posted by piratebowling at 7:40 PM on March 8, 2010 [2 favorites]
This seemed kind of obvious to me.

Ha! I wondered how he had done that. I don't really know anything about him, but I thought he made a great guest. posted by Gilbert at 7:54 PM on March 8, 2010 [1 favorite]
Holy crap, acro, why was that never an FPP? Far more delightful than confirming yet again that Hulu cannot be viewed through any of my VPNs. posted by FuManchu at 8:31 PM on March 8, 2010 [1 favorite]
I watched the whole show on Hulu (well, skipped through most of it, but saw the beginning of all the sketches at least) and didn't see the skit where he showed up sans beard. Did they cut that from the Hulu version? posted by wemayfreeze at 8:37 PM on March 8, 2010
Zach Galifianakis on SNL. Jesus, it's like watching a blowtorch fall into a tar pit. You hope it'll all catch on fire, but it just fizzles out and dies. posted by felix betachat at 8:50 PM on March 8, 2010 [10 favorites]
I apologize for my sloppiness. I should have done five minutes more work and found something that worked.
As far as I know, those torrents I linked to still work. Also, there are some very cheap VPNs that were established after the hotspotshield blocking that appear to still be functioning. They are discussed here: hotspot-shield-alternatives.
The most recent link goes to a pay-vpn service and is from February 2010, i.e. they're not all free.
Also, if you're grabbing torrents, I prefer Vuze to Utorrent, as Utorrent served as a conduit for a trojan virus exploit for my wife's laptop.
EZTV also links mainly to torrents of television programs. posted by craniac at 9:09 PM on March 8, 2010 [1 favorite]
In more detail, for the excluded: He walks quickly to a bathroom, stands at the sink, and shaves with clippers as a blond streaked bouffant wig is placed on him, puts on a tacky white dinner jacket, and walks back, pushing past the various hangers-around and is seen standing on the set before the cameras, where we cannot hear the action going on. Later, he dons an imitation beard and joins the crowd milling onstage for the closing.
exciting! edgy! I hope he later shaved properly, and moisturized. posted by longsleeves at 9:12 PM on March 8, 2010

Zach's beard is one of my favorite things. I was sorry to see it go, but 1) it's good to see he's still handsome under all that fabulous fur, and 2) I know it will be grown back starting, well, immediately. posted by hippybear at 9:40 PM on March 8, 2010

uhh, what? utorrent is the most popular torrent client and is owned by bittorrent inc, sounds more like you downloaded from a sketchy site? posted by p3on at 9:40 PM on March 8, 2010 [3 favorites]
Additionally, isn't Vuze now bloated-as-hell software? I double utorrent for Windows, prefer Transmission on OSX, and rtorrent in Linux. posted by booticon at 9:46 PM on March 8, 2010 [3 favorites]

I like how the Hulu clip was sponsored by Trojan Condoms...because if I was ever allowed to have my way with Zach Galifianakis(I hope I said that right) I would need a truck load of those babies.
/Went to The Comedians of Comedy Tour in Gainesville. I was in line to have my ID checked, felt a hand on my lower back and heard a soft "excuse me" turned around and there was Zach. I think i managed to blurt out "sorry" or something.
[Bunch of chaff removed. There is, indeed, a metatalk thread, if you really want to keep talking about the hulu-vs-the-world thing and related matters.] posted by cortex at 10:13 PM on March 8, 2010

Any torrent client can download something with a virus. Looking around, it looks like 1.6 had an exploit, but obviously that's been fixed. Lots of internet facing software has had exploits, Firefox, acrobat, flash, etc. posted by delmoi at 10:27 PM on March 8, 2010

That's right, folks – this is the funniest thing I've seen on SNL in ten years, and it was a boring clip of some guy shaving his beard off. posted by koeselitz at 12:18 AM on March 9, 2010 [6 favorites]

Utorrent? Isn't that the one that installed some nasty ask.com toolbar, search box, and changed my home page? Another vote for Vuse here. posted by DarkForest at 4:37 AM on March 9, 2010
Here are some reasons that Zach Galifianakis is great:
There's another video of him randomly popping up in "scenes" from other NBC shows like "30 Rock" which is supposed to be high-larious but seems to me just another excuse for NBC to cross-market its crappy shows. posted by blucevalo at 8:47 AM on March 9, 2010

I really believe that Zach is the closest thing going these days to Andy Kaufman, and that's not a bad thing. in my opinion posted by Unicorn on the cob at 1:12 PM on March 9, 2010
He's an amazing comedian, all right. Sometimes I feel like he does too many hipsterish inside jokes, but he's obviously incredibly intelligent, and has this sort of physical grace to the physical comedy he does. He's best when he's very subtle, which is why his man-child performance in the Hangover grated me.
This clip I think shows him at his best - a music video of Anita Baker's "You Bring me Joy". Alotta love in this. posted by mammary16 at 3:36 PM on March 9, 2010
