The Statler and Waldorf additions at the end of this are so clever. I guess we are watching them watch videos on YouTube?

I like it, but I wish the muppet bunnies had more realistic mouths. The cutest thing about bunnies is their mouths. But seriously cute, and I was not expecting the Statler and Waldorf cameo. posted by mccarty.tim at 11:12 AM on April 2, 2010

I'll be opting to celebrate an Estrus festival. Hmmm...do I start with the Insomniacs or the Nomads? Damn, this is already tougher than I expected. The holidays can be so stressful. posted by Slack-a-gogo at 11:52 AM on April 2, 2010

WHY IS HE A CANNIBAL
NOTE TO ALL BUNNIES: THE BIG BUNNY IS NOT A REAL BUNNY! HE'S AN IMPOSTOR! BEWARE! posted by PhoBWanKenobi at 11:53 AM on April 2, 2010 [5 favorites]
What's the ROI of these videos for the Muppet studio? Are they a backdoor pilot for a new TV series? Just keeping the name and brand in people's minds for future movies, merchandise sales, etc.? I know from having friends who worked on The Muppet Show that the sketches aren't cheap to produce. posted by roll truck roll at 11:55 AM on April 2, 2010
This is so close to what my life is like, it's not even bunny. FUNNY. Not even funny. posted by not_on_display at 12:02 PM on April 2, 2010
We've been going through the run of the Muppet Show lately. Oh wow.
Not to discount this video, and the others they've been doing on YouTube. But the Muppets really need a new long-form show. (And they haven't been quite the same since Henson died and Frank Oz left active muppeteering, sadly.) posted by JHarris at 12:06 PM on April 2, 2010 [1 favorite]

Well, from what I understand, there is a new Muppet movie in the works, and based on advance word, it's going to be a winner. posted by hippybear at 12:15 PM on April 2, 2010

The Muppet Bohemian Rhapsody, though it only has one bunny in it, just rocks. I love how they assigned and adapted the various lines according to suitable characters, i.e., Fozzie singing, "Let me joke!", Animal singing "Mama!", forgetting the rest of his part, and continuing to sing, "MAMA! MAMA!" posted by orange swan at 12:29 PM on April 2, 2010
Oops. After all that buildup to the Muppet Bohemian Rhapsody, I suppose you'll want the link.... posted by orange swan at 12:31 PM on April 2, 2010 [1 favorite]

I suspect it's the latter, which I would think a worthy goal. (Hey, it gets us free Muppets!) Also I think YouTube videos can agree to have Google ads which can provide a little money to the uploader, although it can't be enough to pay for these. (And I don't see any ads in these anyway.) posted by JHarris at 12:31 PM on April 2, 2010

Interesting. The Muppet Wiki seems to identify Cheapest and Greatest as two separate projects, am I reading that right?
I've been having a bad day, and that totally just cheered me up. Thanks. posted by colfax at 1:26 PM on April 2, 2010
I was about to show this to my two and a half year old niece who I am baby sitting. I'm glad I watched it first. She is already confused about how some monsters are scary, but Sesame Street monsters are friendly. This could have been traumatic.
Awesome. If I had to guess (and what else is a comment forum for?) I'd say they make these to keep in practice. They are expensive, sure, but so are the mistakes a green crew will make when real money is on the line. Or they could just be making them because Muppets are great and cannot be silenced. posted by chairface at 2:32 PM on April 2, 2010
That was suprisingly disturbing. Would watch again A++ and all that. posted by revmitcz at 3:53 PM on April 2, 2010
I need more Muppets. Like ten times a day. I would be happy if all TV commercials just had muppets running around changing sets and yelling at people and dealing with actors and maybe shoving a Product toward the camera for monies. Seriously, more Muppets. posted by The Whelk at 4:04 PM on April 2, 2010 [4 favorites]

Is the big bunny in the video anything like this Big Bunny? posted by gnidan at 9:12 PM on April 2, 2010
Having watched this several times, I think I'm charmed by the ending. Not the bookend, but the ending, where the bunnies are singing inside the monster (sorry, Big Mean Carl), and he starts mellowly dancing to himself and that last bunny comes and is swaying there with him. It softens the horror of the OM NOM NOM NOM from earlier quite a bit. posted by hippybear at 1:23 PM on April 3, 2010 [1 favorite]
