Oh, obviously NSFW.

ummmm. No.

It's my guess that Eric Tsang will find a way to incorporate this into his Hong Kong TV game show.

Any chance that NSFW could get put above the fold? I mean, I gathered that it probably would be from the description, but there was the following internal dialogue:

Me: Holy shit that sounds weird. I bet it's NSFW.
Me: On the other hand, MeFites are generally pretty good at saying when something's NSFW.
Me: It contains the word "scrotum". I think we can safely say that this should not be viewed in the vicinity of bosses, colleagues or anyone from HR.
Me: Could be a conceptual piece.
Me: "SCROTUM!"
Me: Fair enough.

Yeah, if a mod wants to move that NSFW tag, I am 110% for it. I meant to put in a NSFW tag, but I accidentally hit submit too soon.

I have no idea why youtube has this up when they're normally so strict, without so much as a "This is inappropriate" preview screen.
posted by mccarty.tim at 4:30 AM on November 3, 2010

@djgh - Be scared. Your inner dialogue sounded exactly like mine. I still haven't clicked it and I'm at home - despite wanting to see if it is in fact a conceptual piece.
posted by Nanukthedog at 4:33 AM on November 3, 2010

It's more "WTF, Japan?" I mean that in the nicest way possible towards the Japanese, but that's what this is.
posted by mccarty.tim at 4:34 AM on November 3, 2010

Yeah, I can't say that was a conceptual piece. Shock factor and a badminton racket. I can't scrape the images out of my eyes, and I can't still wonder wtf was with the racket.
posted by Nanukthedog at 4:36 AM on November 3, 2010

I think it is inappropriate to besmirch this post with a NSFW warning label. Firstly, most people in non-scrota related businesses will know not to click the link.

And secondly, didn't everyone have a rough time in gym class back in high school? It's the human condition.

This YouTube comment said it best:

"My mind just got fucked by a shitstorm of Japanese terror."

This is just a small bit of the huge amounts of varied weirdness in the film. It's really worth seeing the whole thing, especially the "Guitar Brother" scenes.

Think of the film as a mini-weirdass Japanese film festival, and it makes a whole lot more sense.

Here's a Weird Dream Sequence from the film. Slow start, but it just keeps getting stranger every minute.

This is from the movie "Funky Forest," which is full of amazing and magical and weird shit.

For example:

Homeroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go for a drink? (No subtitles)
Little Hataru
Youth Classroom

There's plenty more, including my personal favorites, "The Uncomfortable with Women Brothers" (Two Japanese guys and a fat little american kid) that I can't find good clips for on the web, but suffice it to say, this movie is worth checking out. It is about three hours long though, so you have to have patience.

Thanks, mccarty, didn't know about Funky Forest, and I think it's great!

David Cronenberg meets a fistful of Japanese tropes. The weirdest thing in that clip was that young tennis player, both intense and robotic at the same time.

I don't know why this caused me to recall Two Girls One Cup.

That scrotum has burnt its grotesque shape onto my retinas. But at least it's not the Human Sexipede.
posted by londonmark at 5:29 AM on November 3, 2010

I love Funky Forest. Watching it in the theater was like going through some kind of three hour group drug test or something. It's more charming than that, despite all the Cronenberg-like shit going on. Guitar Brother and Homeroom are my faves.

This is truly awesome. I am so ordering this film on DVD (and hoping that my DVD player is region-free).

Though personally I like a little more dread or euphoria with my craziness.

It's more "WTF, Japan?"

Every time I figured that I had a clue what was happening, something would change and I'd be all WTF? again.

My high school was like this, but less Japanese.

I thought for sure it'd be directed by Takashi Miike given the lactation content. But noooo, apparently Japan has more than one lactation-obsessed director.
posted by CutaneousRabbit at 6:39 AM on November 3, 2010

"Funky Forest" would appear to involve a definition of the word "funky" I was previously unaware of.

So did I. It feels like Visitor Q, without the casual necrophilia.

Is this anything like the scene in Casino Royale where Bond gets his balls gently bruised by a rope knot?
posted by HumanComplex at 7:56 AM on November 3, 2010

"Is this anything like the scene in Casino Royale ..."

It's exactly like that scene. Shot-for-shot, word-for word.

No worries about region-free, VIZ put out a nice 2-disc set for the US market and it's available at the usual places

This movie is a favorite of mine. The part with the school girl and the meat boombox and the guy in the furry suit is one of my favorite segments of a movie or tv show or anything else ever ever ever.

Me: On the other hand, MeFites are generally pretty good at saying when something's NSFW.

Do not read the site with this expectation. Besides, in the end you followed your instinct and won -- I don't really see how that warrants a change.

Can you really use "descend" as a transitive verb like that?
I clicked the link to find out and would say that yes, as it happens, you can.

I bailed soon after the H.R. Giger scrotum appeared, disappeared, and re-appeared. Please tell me it didn't start rampaging and eating people later on in the clip.

I have no idea why youtube has this up when they're normally so strict, without so much as a "This is inappropriate" preview screen.

It is up to the community to identify and flag YouTube videos as inappropriate; presumably this hasn't happened yet on this video because early viewers are still rinsing their eyes with bleach.

I kept having the strange feeling I'd seen this before, then remembered it's on Volume 3 of McSweeney's Wholphin DVDs. The Wholphin site has some more good videos to watch, not all as bat-shit insane as this one.
