So that's what you get when you breed a pit bull to a doberman and a rottweiler. Damn.

I like the CAPITALIZATION, these are clearly IMPORTANT DOGS.

My god, the one on the left is a mashed potato lump of ennui.

...and then there's the Shar Pei puppies over on the side, which is pretty awesome if you're into furry wrinkles.

Can I get this intravenously?

I was trying to think of something to say about the one on the left, but it's kind of hard to match "a mashed potato lump of ennui."

I'm outta here.

Made my day. Although Poms are much cuter as puppies, in my opinion.

Reminded me of one of my parents' more sluggish cats, who really enjoys it when the humans throw toy mice down the hall. Not that he wants to chase them, oh no; he just likes to watch his toys fly through the air. Chasing the mice would be beneath his dignity.

There are very few pleasures in the world like seeing your dog scratching an itch, and reaching in to scratch it for him with your dextrous, oversized human hands.

The reaction you get is pure animal pleasure and gratitude. Your dog is awed to be in the presence of a creature that (a) can read its mind, (b) wants it to be happy, and (c) has the capacity to make that happiness come about. I think it's probably a religious experience for your dog.

Puppies and all, but hey, CHICKEN POLICE! Amazing.
posted by Devils Rancher at 2:24 PM on November 4, 2010

actually, this was disturbing in a couple of ways..

as I turned the sound on I heard this husky voice say "play with your ball(s?)"... WHOA!

Then, that puppy on the left, died....

I may never be the same...

The other puppy, that was cute as a button and almost made up for the trauma..

One of my exes had pomeranians, and I - someone who dislikes small, yappy dogs as a rule - developed a passionate, burning hatred for the breed.

But that's still pretty damn adorable.

They look sort of like baby polar bears except that they don't then grow very large and rip your arm off.

the ultimate way to win a dog's love is to scratch under their collar.

My favorite lazy puppy video (because Corgis are the BEST): lazy Corgi. It gets really good at around the 0:25 mark.
posted by kmz at 2:40 PM on November 4, 2010 [16 favorites]

Poms have always, perhaps somewhat unfairly, struck me as a breed on the low end of the dog intelligence scale. Maybe it is their fluffy little teddy bear faces, idk. There's just something in their eyes that tells you, with absolute certainty, that they are not doing calculus all day long while you're out.

i still want to poke their fat little tummies and hear them squeak with delight, obvsly.
posted by elizardbits at 2:49 PM on November 4, 2010 [11 favorites]

Yes, the video of the lazy Corgi does get good around the 0:25 mark. There's a sentence I didn't think I'd write when I got out of bed this morning.

It's like the final shot of some post-apocalyptic movie: the last puppy, weakly playing with his toys among the corpses of his fellow dogs, slowly succumbing to the inevitable...

Mine get annoyed when you try to scratch their itches for them. The ultimate way to win a dog's love, as everybody knows, is to feed them.

Wait a second, three million hits? That wasn't even cute! If those had been kittens, the cute meter would have been spinning off the dial. As it was, you sit waiting for the cute to happen and it never does. This is why the internet is a cat medium, and dogs will always be the pet of second choice.

Kids these days. You see? No enthusiasm whatsoever.

I've got a theory that the Pomeranian is almost always an adopting family's starter dog, because 1) they pick a breed that is predisposed to being sour, yappy and moronic and 2) they don't know enough about training to dissuade them from becoming that way.

I guess I'm just projecting from my own experience of never ever meeting a likable Pomeranian, but I'd love for the next one I see to break the pattern.

but damn those are some cute puppies - I'll take you home little guy

I dislike dogs, but they were cute as hell. They look like baby seals.

OH MY GOD IT IS TOO CUTE, IT HAS FILLED MY HEART WITH JOY, NOW I MUST MURDER TO KEEP THE BALANCE!

[deep breath]

Better.

My cats just discovered tennis balls, their interactions are actually not terribly dissimilar starting out to what these puppies are doing. A ginger tapping, a poke, a probe. Then they remember that they are cats and a claw will snake out, grab the fuzzy ball, yank it back and the front paws hold it in place, while the back ones viciously gut the life out of it.

Over and over.

It's incredibly cute until you realize how violent it could be.

Man, just think! If we could only harvest that energy! We'd have ... a feather duster.

This is a really disturbing video.

I keep trying to interpret the tennis ball looking balls as being, you know, tennis ball size, and my mind adjusts the scale of the puppies accordingly, and everything is fine until this ENORMOUS GODDAMN HAND reaches in and bats the ball across the room with a single finger and now I am all confused and can't tell whether these puppies are fifteen feet tall or like a half inch long it's a terribly cruel puppy-based optical illusion.

These guys are so lazy and indifferent they might as well be cats.

Not kittens.

You... um. I, er, um...

no.

Sorry, dude, you're wrong.

You are catastrophically wrong. Philosophically wrong. Cosmologically wrong. Semantically wrong. You are wrong in ways that hadn't been invented yet. You are, by positioning yourself thus, going back and forward in time and invalidating everything you have written, and will write, on the Internet. You have, by terrible blundering error, invalidated every argument you will ever make. Forever.

I don't know if you can make it worse, but please stop now before we risk finding out.

Yeah, as much as I was expecting to SQUEE CUTE! I'm pretty much just... eh. It wasn't a waste of time to get enraged about, but it doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Though as someone mentioned above, the naming of the video does have some meta-appeal to me.

I enjoyed the fuck out of it.

Of course, a) I've never seen a pomeranian pup, let alone a full grown dog and b) I've been wanting to kill since Tuesday night, so I needed this in a big way.

Friend of mine went to Graceland with her family as a kid. While on the tour, they ended up at the horse stable. The tour guide exposited, "And every day to relax, Elvis would come to the stable and would ride his palomino pomeranian up to the front gate."

After a beat, my friend's brother intoned, "Must have killed his knees."

posted by chemoboy at 11:01 PM on November 4, 2010

It'd have to be duckpin bowling: they're pretty small and I don't think your thumb would fit in the holes.

Tiny? Yes. Fluffy? Yes. Adorable? Yes.

But lazy? You haven't seen lazy until you've had a greyhound who's too lazy to lift his head and eat the treats that you've placed on his side.

See also: Blaze, are you dead? (not my hound, but a good example).
