That's fan all right. Is there something ... special that I'm missing? posted by a robot made out of meat at 7:20 AM on December 3, 2010
Did you notice how they're all sort of standing in a row? posted by Admiral Haddock at 7:24 AM on December 3, 2010
I like these! I been on a big Moebius kick the last week, and it reminds me of some of his simpler stuff, with the understated pastels and all. Thanks for posting this! posted by Greg Nog at 7:32 AM on December 3, 2010
Check out his other art work in the Flickr stream, it's much more interesting, especially the color work. posted by nomadicink at 7:32 AM on December 3, 2010
Is Flickr branching out into fan art? I thought it was for photos. posted by ODiV at 7:49 AM on December 3, 2010
People can post whatever they want on flickr. Lots of people use it for artwork. posted by delmoi at 7:57 AM on December 3, 2010
I'm thinking, "hey, I've watched Mad Men."
So who tf is the guy in the middle with the glasses? I see Peggy, Don, Pete, ??, Roger, Joan, Betty, Bert.
...
Harry Crane? Not fat enough.
Lane Pryce? Not gray enough.
Salvatore? Not gay enough.
Help me out, mefibrain? posted by mrgrimm at 8:01 AM on December 3, 2010
These are cool, but it's maddening that I can't zoom in on them further (it is entirely possible that I just suck at flickr.) posted by Navelgazer at 8:02 AM on December 3, 2010
mrgrimm, I think the second guy from the left is Salvatore and the guy in the middle with the brown suit is Draper...
Navelgazer here is the original size of the Mad Men image. You can click the plus sign (between Prev and Next links) in the upper right corner of the images to make them bigger. posted by morganannie at 8:06 AM on December 3, 2010

I think it's supposed to be Lane. They just aren't that good, really. posted by oneirodynia at 8:10 AM on December 3, 2010
I think it's supposed to be Lane.
I guess that makes more sense since Don doesn't wear glasses. posted by morganannie at 8:12 AM on December 3, 2010
The guy in the middle is Harry. The glasses are right, and he wore brown suits more frequently than the other guys. Peggy looks like she's still got a ponytail in the drawing, so this has to be from the first two seasons, when Lane wasn't around yet.
I like that Bert looks like Colonel Sanders with his shoes off. posted by shakespeherian at 8:42 AM on December 3, 2010 [1 favorite]
Maybe this works best as a kind of commentary on the inanity of the fan art genre (especially juxtaposed against the aforementioned much more interesting work in his photostream)?
"Hey, here's the characters from that movie we all like... they're crudely drawn, and they're standing in a row, surrounded by nothing... and that's all I got." posted by sleevener at 9:11 AM on December 3, 2010 [2 favorites]
I was rather taken with the glasses shot in his stream. I like studies like the fan art, though. posted by maxwelton at 9:20 AM on December 3, 2010
If it's from s2 why would you have Harry but not Kinsey. Also, no Sal.
I think it's meant to be more recent, Harry is more of a main character now.
As far as what makes this interesting, I guess the idea is that you can recognize the character based on a minimal representation. posted by delmoi at 9:25 AM on December 3, 2010
Dunno, "fan art" to me means "art that displays the fantasial ideas of the fan, inspired by the subject."
It may not be as "good" as the FPP above, but it's all clearly drawn by fans, in homage to the originals.
To me, the FPP is actually pop art. The medium is the message. The subject is somewhat arbitrary, albeit chosen for pop appeal. posted by IAmBroom at 9:30 AM on December 3, 2010 [1 favorite]
You can definitely get the Doctors with minimal representation if you're a fan at all. posted by immlass at 9:35 AM on December 3, 2010
Thinking more about it, I agree with castlebravo. It's gotta be Harry. The brown suit. It's weird to include him and not Ken ("Cosgrove. Accounts."). Or Lane.
(Roger wears glasses occasionally, and I could have sworn Don did once too, but that must have been a dream.) posted by mrgrimm at 10:19 AM on December 3, 2010
Also, I've never seen Harry Potter fan art. Your presupposition cheapens me. posted by mrgrimm at 10:25 AM on December 3, 2010
