Is there a "user's manual for grownup life" out there somewhere?

My current level of "life management" skills aren't cutting it anymore (not that they ever did so great to begin with). How can I get my act together?

Best depression-related communities online?

In your opinion, what are the best online resources for people with depression? (e.g. communities, forums, web-based magazines etc).

I'm turning 30 and I don't know how to grow up.

Starting over filter: how do I find out what I'm wired to do?

Be my Q. Help me crash a party like James Bond.

A secret cabal of family members is having a rather big party this summer on the shores of Lake Huron. My mission: arrive in style a la James Bond. I've checked out their security, and although strong on three sides, they haven't guarded the lake. Fools. I would like to arrive via the lake. However, I'm having a tough time with what to wear. Preferably, I'd like to slip out of my wetsuit into a crisp, wrinkle free tuxedo. Is this possible?

The Places Los Angeles Forgot

Tourists coming to Los Angeles usually visit the standard few spots; but there are some amazing urban ruins that even the locals are rarely aware of. From the original site of the Los Angeles zoo (abandonded cages & rock facades now) to the remains of the Sunken City, to the inexorably rusting hull of the 44 year old shipwrecked Greek freighter Dominator, L.A.'s forgotten places are tourist destinations for the intrepid, local & visitor alike. A PDF guide to how to find many of the best (including the Echo Mountain House & The Bridge To Nowhere) can be found here. Many links & inspiration via

What experience most shaped who you are?

Life-altering experiences. Can you point to a single experience in your life, as a child, which you can define as having contributed to the person you are today? (+)

I sometimes think I'm more other people than I am myself

I often seem to confuse what other people want or think for what I want or think. I'm fearful this has led to me making a number of decisions I'll ultimately be unhappy with, and may make more in the future. I'm also afraid I'll hurt others as well.

How does one remember how to think?

How does one go about "remembering how to think"? A good friend recently mentioned to me that she no longer has any motivation to think deeply about anything, be it religion, philosophy, or even which side of her toast to butter. Help me kick-start her curiosity by suggesting films and books.

If you persist in your efforts...

You can achieve dream control. Lucid dreaming has been discussed on MeFi before. LD4all is a site that I highly recommend, as it takes you step-by-step through the learning process; from remembering your dreams through gaining control and even into more esoteric subjects. As a researcher in the field, I'm interested in both the empirical views and those more artistic in nature.

How can I catch up on the news for the last two weeks?

Let's say you've been living in a hole for the last two weeks or so and have no knowledge of current events and limited reading time. Where would be a good place to gain information quickly?

Photography of Japan's Underground

Joe Nishizawa's new photojournalism book, Deep Inside, is a visual exploration of the amazing, highly mechanized world under Japan's urban areas. This brief interview with the author is accompanied by several interesting photos.

Million monkeys in my head

Thinking too much: I believe I have too many thoughts going on in my head almost constantly. How do I quieten my mind when it says - No! you have to finish this stream of thought or you will lose not coming to conclusion.

Moving out of one's own head.

I live in my own head too much. I over-analyze my own feelings/thoughts as well as the actions of others. How do I overcome this?

Teaching Math Facts at 15

My sweet son has many disabilities--type 1 diabetes, ADHD, depression. At 15, he just confessed with great pain that he doesn't know his multiplication tables very well. Explains a lot. Any really wonderful suggestions that don't infantilize and humiliate him. Ones that work? Any personal success stories and moral support will make me heart you.

Who was that little yellow man painted on the side of the glass?

I saw this on here like two years ago but I can't find it now. Anyway, I'm trying to remember the name of these little television spots (it may have been a full show, but I don't thinks so) that featured a little yellow man painted on the side of a glass. It was for children. Anyone?

Urge to bite, rising.

Does anybody else get the urge to bite something (like say, an arm) every once in a while?

Underground Bases

Underground bases [you decide] This is a list of known or suspected U.S. Underground Bases, the purpose of each (hey, I'm just passing on the reports...), how they're set up and any other info known about them. Although most of these are supposed to be a secret, this list is culled from publicly available records (is that good or bad?) and of course people who worked in them, live by them or those who have retired and offer info. Some wish to remain anonymous. Some have written to me with stories that have been terrifying - just to tell me things - not meaning for me to put them up.
