No boxes as of yet

Meet Miri, the newest addition to the house of Maru and Hana. A two-month kitten that was rescued from a gutter, Miri will probably soon join Maru and Hana on their scientific investigations of how many tiers of toilet paper rolls you can jump over, how many plastic balls before a walkway is impossible to cross, and how many litres is a liquid cat. (Maru still isn't sure what to make of her yet.)

Matt Berry is the Toast of London

Toast Of London stars Matt Berry (IT Crowd, Snuff Box, Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place) as troubled theatre actor Steven Toast, an eccentric middle-aged actor with a chequered past who spends more time dealing with his problems off stage than performing on it. With a recent divorce, a highly controversial play to perform every night, a shell shocked army officer for a brother and an audition in a prison - it’s turning into another very busy day for Toast in this, the pilot episode for the Channel 4 series. Snowflakes need help managing heat and humidity

I hate humidity. I hate heat. It's been relentless for what feels like four weeks straight. I don't want to do anything. Everything seems on hold between the weather and the pandemic. Need help with practical solutions and perhaps a rosy way or two to reframe the whole deal.

Snake Neighbour

It's 3am and I've just been crying for a couple of hours. I moved house a couple of weeks ago and a couple of hours ago I just met one of the people which shares the house that's been turned into studios and they had their snake with them. I can't deal with living two metres from a snake. There's no-one I can call because it's fine and legitimate and this is brown snake land but I'm weak and afraid. How do.you sleep with a snake just there

"We need wall"

Did you want a quiet week? Events in US politics are occurring at an impossible to comprehend pace. Today, the President announced that Secretary of Defense Mattis will be "retiring" at the end of February. The Secretary's resignation letter cites differences of opinion with the President on "treating allies with respect and also being clear-eyed about both malign actors and strategic competitors." The President announced he will not sign any government spending bill that does not include funding for a border wall (WaPo), leaving the government headed toward a partial shutdown. New work requirements could take food stamps away from 750,000 people (Vox). A new policy will require asylum-seekers to be turned away and wait in Mexico (Vox) as they wait months or years for their applications to be processed. Ethics scandals around the Mueller investigation developed for both the acting (WaPo) and prospective (WSJ) Attorneys General.

How to Work from Home

What options are available for me to work from home to earn some extra income? I am looking for work I could do that would let me earn between a hundred to two hundred dollars per week. I have an idea of some of the options, but I need more info that's from people and not google. What are reputable (not scam-ridden) means to find such work? What such work would you recommend to someone with a pretty generic skill set?

My neck! My hands! Help this skincare dummy, please.

I'm in my late forties. And over the past year or so, I've noticed the skin on my neck getting looser and more crepe-y, and my hands are looking really sad too (the crepey skin along with age spots). I like to think of myself as accepting this aging stuff gracefully, but I'm not ready for this. Can you recommend any regimens/specific products to help with these problems?

The difference between a snafu, a shitshow, and a clusterfuck

Let’s say the situation at work is not good. The project (or product, or re-org, or whatever) has launched, and the best you can say is that things aren’t going as planned. At all. It’s a disaster, though the best word for it is the one you drop over drinks with your team and when venting at home: it’s a clusterfuck. […] To appreciate what a clusterfuck is—and to understand how to avoid one—it is first helpful to clarify some of the things a clusterfuck is not.

How can I improve my cat's carrier anxiety?

What's the best method to get this anxious kitty across the ol' USA?

Special Agent Dale Cooper is a very sweet, loving and lazy kitty. He is very happy living the simplest of lives - by day he lazes at the foot of my bed. He takes odd breaks to snack, or lie in his cat lounge. Every once in a while, when he needs to shake it up, he takes an adventure-tourism vacation to lounge on the bathmat. I am currently anticipating a job offer that will take him VERY far out of his comfort zone - clear across the country. Previous travels have been traumatic for Agent Cooper and his traveling companions (namely me, but also anyone in a small radius). I'll explain at length inside - warning: it's a little, but not terribly, gross.

When cats fly

We're moving (maybe you remember from my previous 100 questions on this topic) to California from Chicago and taking our cat on the plane with us. This is a new experience for both my hubby and me. I've done a lot of Googling, I've read up on United's pet policy, and read through Flyer Talk, etc. so I think I get the basic concepts but I'm specifically confused about a few things.

moving tips?

My mom is moving from a small town 45+ miles outside of Atlanta to a suburb of Atlanta. We're looking at best ways to move her - neither she nor I can move all the furniture/boxes, so we're looking at movers. Due to her location in a small town, there aren't many local moving services/local labor sources. Any tips or tricks that I might not be thinking of?

“Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.”

‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Creates a Chilling Man’s World [The New York Times] “In Hulu’s spectacular “The Handmaid’s Tale,” Ms. Moss is Offred, a baby-making slave in the Republic of Gilead, which is what part of the United States (New England, roughly) has become after a fertility crisis and a theocratic coup. It’s set in a near future that looks like the 1600s. “Mad Men” may have resonated with today, but it gave viewers the comfortable vantage of history, the reassurance that we had come a long way, baby. “The Handmaid’s Tale” argues — with an assist from current events — that progress is neither automatic nor irreversible. “The Handmaid’s Tale,” based on the 1985 Margaret Atwood novel, is a cautionary tale, a story of resistance and a work of impeccable world-building. It is unflinching, vital and scary as hell.”

Kanye being, well, Kanye

Kanye West has released the new music video for his song "Famous," (warning: explicit, NSFW) featuring disturbingly lifelike wax likenesses of celebrities lying next to eachother naked in a large bed. The celebrities? Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, George W. Bush, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Ray J, Caitlyn Jenner, Bill Cosby, Amber Rose, Anna Wintour, and, of course, Kim & Ye himself. The video has unsurprisingly garnered strong reactions. Kanye's equally unsurprising Twitter response? "Can somebody sue me already #I'llwait".

Won't You Say Their Names?

This song is a vessel. It carries the unbearable anguish of millions. We recorded it to channel the pain, fear, and trauma caused by the ongoing slaughter of our black brothers and sisters. We recorded it to challenge the indifference, disregard, and negligence of all who remain quiet about this issue. Silence is our enemy. Sound is our weapon. They say a question lives forever until it gets the answer it deserves ... Won't you say their names? Earlier today, Janelle Monáe and her record label Wondaland Records released the protest song "Hell You Talmbout," after leading a march protesting police brutality in Philadelphia (warning for autoplaying video).

What should I buy from a korean supermarket?

I now live two minutes away from a huge korean supermarket that has an amazing and cheap produce and seafood section. I have no idea what a lot of this stuff is, but I love Asian cooking, so what are some things I should buy, now that I have an opportunity? I'm particularly interested in any recipes that are easy, inexpensive, and depend on 'ethnic' ingredients that you can't find in most grocery stores, or fresh seafood or unusual cuts of meat (pork belly, chicken feet, etc)

Bondathon without the Bond

2 years ago my husband got all huffy and insulted that I hadn't seen all the James Bond movies and instated "Bondathon" where we watched one Bond movie, in order, every sunday every week until we got through them all. He had it all timed out so that the final week coincided with the release of Skyfall. I may not have liked all the movies (Oh my god, "You Only Live Twice" is utter crap!) but I really liked the experience otherwise. Give me some suggestions for other movie -athons that we can have.
