Shots fired from within NY City Hall. Shooter still on the loose, but apparently wounded.
Bloomberg is a fool.
"This is an attack on democracy," said Bloomberg. "This is not terrorism -- it appears to be a random act."
Ok, if it's random, how does it have a motive, you fuckwit? If it's random, then it's just an attack, not an attack on an ideal. I can't believe you people voted for this idiot liberal.

- It wasn't random -- the person who shot Councilman James Davis was standing with him when he opened fire -- they attended the meeting together. Two of Davis' staffers are being questioned about the person right now.
- No, not an attack on democracy. He is such a maroon.

I'm going to defend his not terrorism but still attack on democracy comment - a city councilman was shot dead in city hall conducting business. With that things have shut down all business for at least today, and depending on motive this may have been a direct result of said councilmans political position.
I'm really not one to speculate on things like this, but at the moment that part of his comments aren't that far off base.
The "random" comment... if taken as "random act of violence" and not what I suspect he meant it more as "isolated" is a bit more sketchy.

If only there were organizations that employed people to investigate and write about such incidents. Then their writings could be posted on the web -- let's call them "news sites" -- and we could get all our news from those sites! And not see it on the front page of MeFi!

Sounds like somebody tried to copycat a famous San Francisco event... Police should be looking for a man with Twinkies on his breath...
BTW, What happened to that fire in the French landmark? Is it still standing? Is Paris FD better than NY's? (yes, I'm trolling for New Yawkers...)
Please remember, MetaFilter is NOT a local publication.
Besides, we Californians seceded last week (we spread petitions telling everybody we were recalling the Governor to replace him with Arnold... chuckle.)

Insomnyuk: Huh? Words mean things, and you should learn to use them properly.
Liberal does not mean "someone I don't like". It denotes a certain body of political ideals and beliefs that Bloomberg certainly does not subscribe to.
Bloomberg ran on the Republican ticket and is generally considered to be a moderate Republican.
Bloomberg didn't ban cigarettes all on his own, and he certainly didn't raise taxes all on his own. To pretend that he is the king of NYC, and then randomly slap him with a label is the worst kind of straw man argument, and frankly, I would expect more of you.

I don't have any friends in the administration, thanks. Liberal obviously means a lot of things, and if Bloomberg was fiscally responsible, he would have cut budgets, not raise taxes. On another note, Bloomberg merely joined the Republican party in the last few years so that he could run for mayor on a post-Giuliani ticket. Bush is a moderate AT BEST, and Bloomberg is definitely a liberal, with his social-democratic platform.
Heh, I guess stuff like "state's rights" and "personal responsbility" only extends to the particular drug you happen to like.
Heh. Actually, you unclefucking fuckwit, I don't think any drugs should be banned or restricted, and it should in fact be a local issue. I stand by what I said about Bloomberg being an idiot liberal. Note how the word "idiot" modifies the word "liberal." Now, if you understood grammar, you would know that this does not mean that I think all liberals are idiots, there are a few intelligent ones. People sitting in a council seat don't exactly have much power to do anything substantial in the world, so why would someone want to kill one specifically?

He did both, because both were necessary. That's fiscally responsible. Good grief, what kind of fantasy land do cut-and-spend Republicans live in these days?

Think the original article has changed since first being posted.
Askew walked into the building with Davis and the two men did not go through magnetometers,
The article mentioned Davis being a councilman which allowed him to bypass the magnetometers, but why not Askew? Then too Davis walking Askew in, it gave him the privilege too, why?
Make sure I have this straight, Askew was a running mate not a council member? Again why was he exempted from search? It makes no sense to have prevention if not used uniformly.
PS liberal: broad-minded which I think a lot are here as most seem to let folks think for themselves not forcing it on them.
