Safe For Work A photoshop competition just for Metafilter. Nudes from the history of art, only with clothes on. You can see the originals too. My favourite is the water carrier. (SFW!)

I really wish people would actually filter the best of the web, rather than reposting bOINgbOIng links. I love the bOING, but give me a break already.

I fervently wish this.

(Some of us haven't seen boingboing and think this link was pretty neat.)

(some of us are quadriplegic and poop in bedpans)

Which is to say fuck that, and open up an argument that I invite someone else who actually gives a shit either way to take to Metatalk and inevitably lose.

Me, I'm tired of Metafilter becoming an ego-driven (as opposed to code-driven) blogdex+comments.

Wow, stavros. Ease up. No need for all that.

This was something I wouldn't have otherwise seen, and I'm pretty goddamn impressed by it.

Stop pooping on the thread, stavros...it isn't your personal bedpan.

Stavros: I hate to break it to you, but not everyone reads the same things you do. I know that may be ego shattering, which could be dangerous to others given the sheer size of it. Please distribute eye protection as necessary.

I do not read boing boing, and don't plan to start either. I also don't read fark, plastic, keroshin, or any other "well known" link nest.

Metafilter suits my needs just fine. It gives me more links than I could possibly look at every day, along with mostly interesting commentary.

How you think that information here on MeFi somehow has to be "unique" and not covered at any other source is beyond me. Yet another example of someone trying to claim the sandbox as their own.

If you have seen a link already, for gods-fucking-sake, just click the next link. No need to come in here blabbering and blustering.

It is extraordinarily presumptions, pompous, and downright rude to "expect" the other 17,000 members of MeFi to read the exact same goddamn things you do.

Now shut the fuck up.

On topic:

The very fact that these works of fine art could be considered "nsfw" makes me depressed.

Actually I got this from Coudal, Stavros. Still waiting for your a-list professional link of the day to blast all us fucking amateurs away. And no, I won't go to Metatalk for you.

presumptions=presumptuous

spellcheck can only help so much *grumble*
posted by Ynoxas at 6:38 AM on May 29, 2004

No, you shut the fuck up, Ynoxas. If you haven't got the most obvious, most-trafficked sites on your daily rounds on the web, if you are so uninterested in anything but your webanalogue of the USA Today poppap (towards which those of little wit keep pushing Metafilter to be), then you need a kick in the fucking ass, you lame narrowband twit.

Stavros: I hate to break it to you, but not everyone reads the same things you do.

Ynoxas : I hate to break it to you, but if you don't read boingboing -- the most pointed-to weblog on the internet -- then you have no goddamn clue, and you embarrass yourself in a community where the! best! of! the! web! is coolth-currency.

Kiss my ass, son. You got a problem with my derision, take me to Metatalk.

Who doesn't read bOINgbOIng?

What Stavros said, only replace bOINgbOIng with Slashdot and news.google.com.

Hey stavros, can you clarify a little bit? I'm trying to figure out whether you're a paraplegic who poops in bedpans, or whether you think I'm a paraplegic who poops in bedpans? Because I'm not a paraplegic, and even if I were, I'm not sure what bedpans have to do with it. If you're a paraplegic, then I'm sorry about your condition, and if there's anything I can do to make your life more comfortable (like say, reading boingboing before reading metafilter), then I'll do it.

(Spazzotalk™: also, a link to the latest thread of photoshoppery from Worth1000, in and of itself, is horrifyingly lame, because threads similar have been linked repeatedly before, and are almost always good. Worth1K=Good. We know that! Should we link to every new interesting Slashdot thread, too?)

stavros: you've made me feel so inferior. I'll go stand in the corner and wimper for a while now. I'll never be as leet as you on this complicated intarweb.

I bow down to your ability to click bookmarks in a specified order. Truly impressive.

Maybe one day I can commit myself to reading all the things all the cool kids do, like you. Then I can point and laugh and feel superior and learn the secret handshake.

I'll try to be more clear: Metafilter is the *ONLY* thing of its ilk I read, because I actually do more with my life than read fucking blogs all day.

MeFi is "sufficient" for me. If its not the coolest or the most complete or the wittiest or the most current or where all the cool kids hang out, I couldn't give a flying fuck.

It serves its purpose for me. It apparently doesn't for you. Go somewhere more "sophisticated" then. Me, I'll stay here, and read these posts and enjoy them.

And you, my dear misguided loon, have no ability to change that one jot. And that is what really gets your goat.

and you embarrass yourself in a community where the! best! of! the! web! is coolth-currency.

On further reflection, I think this comment reveals a tremendous amount about you and your motivations.

I embarrass myself because I don't read the same sites in the same sequence as you? I can't say we share the same reality.

Good luck to you Stavros. I hope you find some solace in your faux-supremacy.

I'm always amazed at how clothing makes people sexier.

voivod, your link is pooched.

Ohhh, I've been missing the boat, I'm supposed to be looking at naked art and thinking how sexy it is. CRAP!

But then, I am also uncool and don't read boing boing or any of those other cool sites.

I wonder how long it will be before software can apply these kinds of effects in real-time?

I recall reading about a religious group that sells censored versions of popular movies and won the right to do so in court over the objections of Hollywood. But they're just crudely cutting out whole scenes with nudity! Why not leave that sex scene in, but drape the actor's bodies with software generated Grecian robes, and replace the pillow talk with ernest discussions of family values?

I am also uncool in my lack of desire to read the most pointed-to weblog on the internet Metafilter and Obscure Store were always enough for me to get a glimpse of what is interesting and amusing in the world today.

Gee. I feel like so much less of a person now.

I'm also with Ynoxas: Art = NSFW = depressing.

damn - put a period between internet and Metafilter.

I love the Safe for Work contests, but you have to work a bit to find the earlier ones on the site. Here's 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Did John Ashcroft do any of these?

What's interesting is that boingboing has been in a bit of a rut lately, IMO, and has been posting virtually every worth1000 contest, whether they were interesting or not.

Funny. I saw it already, but on Sharpeworld, which lists it as via Coudal. Are those obscure enough to merit a post? I mean, BoingBoing gets everything from somewhere...

I came very, very late to this whole shenanigan (okay, I missed it entirely), but I can't not give stavros some points for quoting PIL.
