It truly amazes me that someone who's supposed to believe in an all powerful god could be soo arrogant to think that they not only know exactly what god wants, but god will do their bidding and reign terror down on people who in such petty ways rebuke god.

And secondly, didn't all those school board members testify that this *wasn't* religious? If it's not religious, how can god be upset?

Pat Robertson treats the Bible as something important and to be taken seriously. He doesn't praise the general aura of the Bible as being of vague spiritual importance while ignoring the vast majority of its content. He's an idiot, but unlike most religious people he is by and large "intellectually honest".

"[you] voted God out of your city"

I repeat the comment I made in another thread where I first saw a link to this: The real question here is which one of the eight ousted school board members Pat thinks is God. And what was He doing in a school board election in the middle of Pennsylvania.

Yeah, right. He's the worst kind of self-aggrandizing charlatan; read thewittyname's link for just one example of his convenient style of "intellectual honesty." Robertson clearly says this kind of thing for the attention and money it gets him. We'll all be better off when more folks refrain from vaulting him to front-page news status. O'Riley is such an idiot. Blocking the military from recruiting in schools has nothing to do with anti-military, and everything to do with being anti-anti-gay.

(Okay, well maybe that's more of an excuse then anything. But these wars mean parents don't want their kids around military recruiters.)

Lemme see if I've got this straight.

Bill O'Reilly's "mainstream" family values say "screw the parents". The military can do what it wants with kids, and their parents have no say. If parents don't want their kids getting blown up in Iraq, then Al Queda should blow them up at home.

But last time Al Queda blew up something at home, O'Reilly used it as justification to invade a country that never attacked us, namely Iraq. Because fighting "them" over there means we don't have to fight "them" here, apparently. So why is he asking them to fight here? Because parents don't want their kids getting blown up in Iraq?

If al Queda should blow you up at home...we should invade who now? France? Canada?

The mind boggles.

PinkStainlessTail, are you sure this blithering jackass isn't on the fringe? Check again, will ya? It just can't be mainstream...this O'Reilly guy is a frigging idiot. Mainstream? Are you sure? If so, I'd like to tell my Canadian friends to duck. Thanks in advance.

The temperature of Heaven can be rather accurately computed. Our authority is Isaiah 30:26, "Moreover, the light of the Moon shall be as the light of the Sun and the light of the Sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days." Thus Heaven receives from the Moon as much radiation as we do from the Sun, and in addition 7 x 7 (49) times as much as the Earth does from the Sun, or 50 times in all.

The light we receive from the Moon is one 1/10,000 of the light we receive from the Sun, so we can ignore that.

The radiation falling on Heaven will heat it to the point where the heat lost by radiation is just equal to the heat received by radiation, i.e., Heaven loses 50 times as much heat as the Earth by radiation. Using the Stefan-Boltzmann law for radiation, (H/E)^4 = 50, where E is the absolute temperature of the earth (-300ºK), gives H as 798ºK (525ºC).

The exact temperature of Hell cannot be computed. However, Revelation 21:8 says "But the fearful, and unbelieving ... shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone." A lake of molten brimstone [sulphur] means that its temperature must be at or below its boiling point, 444.6ºC.

We have, then, that Heaven, at 525ºC is hotter than Hell at 445ºC.

I think encouraging Al Quaeda to nuke San Francisco on national television could probably be considered "aiding and abetting the enemy," besides being horrifyingly anti-American. San Franciscans are Americans, because San Francisco is in the United States of America, Bill.

Is O'Reilly based here in LA, at Fox Studios? 'Cuz I'll call LAPD, FBI and Homeland and send 'em over there to frog-march the bastard.

Of course, he didn't actually say it right out, did he.

I really, really have a problem with this. This is an American advocating use of WMD against an American city. I know, free speech and all, but isn't this where the "limits" on free speech that our right-wing Mefite friends advocate come in?

“Blocking the military from recruiting in schools has nothing to do with anti-military”
- delmoi

I see no problem with folks not wanting recruiters to have access to their kids. I find it ironic that O'Reilly who never served is beating this drum.

Robertson too makes me laugh. Reminds me of the old joke:
A man of God was told by the police that he was in danger from a flood and had to leave. He refused and said: " God is going to save me. I put my faith in Him."
When the flood waters got to his front door, the National Guard came by to save him. He gave them the same answer:" God is just testing my faith".
When the water got to his roof, a boat came by to save him. His faith was still strong and he replied:" God is going to save me."
The water got higher than the roof and when he was up to his neck a helicopter came by to save him.
Again he refused because God was testing his faith and would rescue him.
He drowned.
When he stood in front of God he said: "Lord, I put my faith in you and you let me drown. Why?"
God answered, "What are you talking about? I sent the cops, the National Guard, a boat and a helicopter.”

I believe Mr Robertson's statement was off-hand and more ill-considered than anything. However, it makes me wonder what his understanding might be.

The spirit of his remark is simply anti-biblical in at least two ways. First, he suggests people do not call on God in times of trouble which is a foolish enough thing to say in itself. Second, he judges that they've committed an unpardonable sin, or a "last straw" act which places them in some sort of imagined unredeemable position.

I wonder if he follows this simple concept: none of it is his call in any case.
