A couple of recent fairy tales

Naomi Kritzer, "Field Biology of the Wee Fairies" (Apex, Sep. 4, 2018; author interview with photos of her mother, whose high school experiences partially inspired the story): "When Amelia turned fourteen, everyone assured her that she’d find her fairy soon. Almost all girls did." Laura Blackwell, "An Accidental Coven" (Syntax & Salt, Sep. 22, 2018): "One Saturday night six months ago, my husband and I attended a party where we saw three women wearing the same dress."

This is my very favorite brand of Metafilter post, the kind that points me to something right up my alley that I wouldn't have seen otherwise. Thanks so much for posting!

Oh, I might be crying a little. I love Amelia. And I don't want to explain too much to avoid spoilers, but reading through to the end though, I might even love Betty a tiny bit more.

These were both outstanding, but the Field Biology one left me with a jump-for-joy feeling at the end. So so satisfying.

Yes, the second was also excellent, though the beginning's a little weird past the first paragraph. Power through, it's worth it and makes sense in the end.
