Dizzy yet?

I was hoping for a sphere.

After a minute or two I got a 1X1 brick. That's much weirder than the cylindrical shape.

Unplayable on Ubuntu/Firefox. I suspect it has something to do with the flash advertisements stealing keystrokes before they get to the game.

That was fine until they started throwing weirdly shaped Tetris blocks at me. A cross? A little three-square corner? An extra long Z? No way. Turns out I'm a purist.

It's like tetris and also legos.

I had the same reaction. I actually felt myself getting angry when a nonstandard piece started falling.

I really liked the odd Tetris shapes. Eventually that's what did me in. I was starting to feel really smart, though, getting up to those high speeds. Then I felt really stupid, realizing I'd been playing for 20 minutes while forgetting to check on my spaghetti. Then I thought about posting about here about my spaghetti, and then I remembered I was playing Tetris. That's the story of how I lost.

Between this and Kingdom Rush, my physiotherapist is going to retire as a very wealthy woman.

It's fundamentally the same game, except for the mutant and forbidden Tetrominos that totally throw off traditional Tetris strategy to deal with left hand and right hand pieces. It sure is pretty, though. Not very much lag even on my slow computer.

Well, I guess there's a bit more flexibility since you can place pieces without being blocked by the walls at either side, allowing for more placement options.

But that also screws with the left-right placement strategy. I can't seem to build a Tetris well or hole reliably the same way you can with traditional Tetris, and I suspect that would be true even with the forbidden pieces.

True Tetrominos are composed of four equally sized squares for a reason. Not one square, nor three, nor five. Four.

Edit: I suspect that would be true even without the forbidden pieces.

Oh, grand. I didn't want to get anything done this week anyhow.

Agreed. I gave up and had to close the window when the urge to scream "tetra- means four! FOUR!" became overwhelming.

Weird, no problem here. I just killed about half an hour. Try Adblock or something similar maybe?

I really would have liked a warning about the different blocks before the game started. While the "What the hell is that?" moment passed quickly, it throws you off for a while as you start wondering what you might see next.

This is good. My first game lasted a surprisingly long time, and at the end it told me I got a high score. I was quite proud of that until I found out it stores the high scores locally, not centrally.

I felt like I was playing Tetris with Jean Valjean.

Neat. But I think the cylinder aspect actually makes it easier because there are more locations for pieces, when not dealing with a barrier at two locations (the edges of the traditional game).

So like the reverse of that level from the Tron arcade game?

There was also Tetrisphere on the Nintendo 64. A bigger departure from the standard Tetris mechanics, but a fun game nonetheless.

Well, I guess there's a bit more flexibility since you can place pieces without being blocked by the walls at either side, allowing for more placement options.

If I understand the mathematics correctly, I think that means that an indefinite game would be possible, unlike standard Tetris.

The best part about that game is the piece that is just one big torus so as soon as it makes contact with anything it annihilates itself. More games need suicidal pieces.

I didn't get odd-shaped pieces, but maybe I didn't play long enough.

I quit when it was still easy. The only special challenge here is over-coming the poor UI design of cylinder vs rectangle.

That was interesting but I found it really boring compared to regular tetris. Kingdom Rush, as mentioned above, monopolized about 3 days of mine.

This is great. Lack of walls makes it a lot easier than conventional tetris, at least for me. And that solid ring piece freaked me out. What would be really evil would be a solid ring except for one segment.

The first messed up piece I got was a donut. One block high, and a full circle around. I said 'what the FUCK YOU?' but when it dropped, the entire thing disappeared since it had completed it's own row. It was bizarre... made me feel a bit like this last panel.

Hmmm, good, but not as good as Retris, which also has weird pieces designed to fuck your game right up.
