Teddy

Teddy is the best character to come out of movies in years. Shame about the movie.
Seen it?
I just came back from watching that actually.. I quite liked it, nice and sweet, and dark and broody at the same time, Spielberg family + Kubrick pessimism I suppose..
Teddy Ruxpin used to scare me. And his maggot side was scary kick too.. Or was that SuperTed? Or both?

Not much to be gleaned from the link, though. Not even a picture of the guy. Maybe a new Metafilter tagline should be 'Think before you link.' We're not just here for the discussions.

Mossy -- I'm glad to hear that someone else used to get freaked out by Teddy Ruxpin.
He was some sort of warped hybrid between Robot and good old loveable, stuffed-with-rags-Ted. And he wore spaceage clothes like he should have been on Buck Rogers or something. If Teds wear clothes, they should be restricted to Overalls -- like Old Ladies should be banned from wearing anything but floral cotton frocks.
I remember picking Teddy Ruxpin up in the shops when I was eight or so -- flicking it on, and being totally freaked out by how it felt. I couldn't cuddle the thing. It kept moving and vibrating.
I like a static Ted.

Yay! Talking Teddy!
Even if Brian Aldiss said the movie was too highbrow for most Americans, I liked it. Played the online marketing game for a while too.
I agree, Gray. It had better say that line.
And I think Teddy Ruxpin's sidekick was Grubby. I don't remember offhand.

The movie was great, up until the end when Spielberg attempts to rape your emotions again.
It's not enough to just be sad, it must be EXCRUCIATINGLY sad! That ruined it for me. It just seemed so cheesy.
