Where's Mrs. Peel?

I kinda thought being "Sweded" was going to somehow result in a more authentic Thor.

Where's Mrs. Peel?

They already tried that one. And it was terrible.

As for this upcoming Avengers...

Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist.

Joss + RDJ == Awesometastic.

No Diana Rigg or Patrick Macnee = No Avengers

The theme music in that trailer reminded me of this. Goddammit.

And that's just the Libertarians.

Thanks, that made me laugh more than twice.

Diana Rigg and Patrick McNee - elegant understatement. Current impostors = slam bang to get your attention? Why is so much noise necessary?
posted by Cranberry at 3:35 PM on October 19, 2011

aaaaah they lose sync because of extra jokes, lame
posted by Tom-B at 3:36 PM on October 19, 2011

Pretty awesome, although my nitpick is that I kinda wish they didn't write in any jokes.

That was awesome.

Different Avengers. These guys are only about two years more current than the ones you're thinking of.

I'm kind of thinking that was a joke.

I do wonder if Stan and Jack ever heard of the show though.

Gee, sorry none of Earth's Mightiest Heroes carry a brolly or wear bowler hats.

Me too. Earth's mightiest heroes are freakin' boring.

I don't understand why this is supposed to be amusing or entertaining. I also find the official trailer to be underwhelming. This does nothing to lower my expectations of Joss + RDJ == Awesometastic. however.

TBH the fan trailer made out of bits of the previous movies that did the rounds a bit ago was a better Avengers trailer... though a bit too long, as fan trailers usually are (must... use... every... bit!)
posted by Artw at 4:19 PM on October 19, 2011

You know, if I was trying to get out the hype for my movie, I'd definitely get some 'sweded' versions of my trailer out there on Youtube.

...also, not having seen Thor yet (I keep falling asleep during it, hmmm) am I to understand that the Avengers come together on the big screen because Loki is the big bad? Really? I was expecting Skrulls. Or y'know, the Hulk.
posted by PapaLobo at 4:20 PM on October 19, 2011

I imagine there will be more than one villain.
posted by empath at 4:25 PM on October 19, 2011

Agreed, PapaLobo. I've seen Thor (thanks only to Rifftrax and really found Loki to be overwhelmingly underwhelming, if that's a thing.

This trailer was AWESOME by the way.

i don't understand why hollywood wants to keep rebooting and telling the same origin stories over and over again.

Just start in the middle, and keep going with the same continuity.

The popular opinion due to set photos seems to be Loki and Skrulls, PapaLobo. I thought Tom Hiddleston was the best thing about the otherwise average Thor though, so I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.

I'm kind of thinking that was a joke.

Yeah? I can't even tell any more; freakin' Internet.

Me too. Earth's mightiest heroes are freakin' boring.

I can already envision the hipster-targeted Avengers reboot in a couple years, directed by Wes Anderson. Jason Schwartzman as Tony Stark! Michael Cera as Bruce Banner! Owen Wilson as Steve Rogers! Ryan Gosling as Thor! Cap talks about how he was wearing trilbys before everyone else was even born; Bruce's glasses are as big as his head; Thor just looks like a million other guys with beards.

Good times.

Plus, I don't want to draw the attention of the fanboy police, but I trust Joss Whedon's sensibilities as a writer.

I love the trend of a capella versions of bombastic preview music, which could be a genre unto itself with a few more entries. For my money, though, so far nothing beats the Inception redub.

Agreed. But this isn't a reboot or anything like that.

Joss Whedon is an incredible writer but this movie looks horrible.

I hope I'm being at least somewhat impartial, but I see a lot of promise. A great writer/pretty good director, some great talent (RDJ, Ruffalo, Renner), and what looks like some exciting action pieces (although yeah, it's designed to look that way in a trailer).

That being said, yes, I really hope Joss Whedon can pull this off. Otherwise I don't figure he'll be directing another film anytime soon.
