Neat! He has a great eye for how it all fits together.

I love watching how he works -- some sections look 100% done, and then there are these scallops of white where he hasn't yet started. He'll go up to the top of the collar, shade along the bend of a hat, and then just... stop.

Chris told me that as he was working he would become obsessed with an upcoming square/section/character in the drawing and was unable to resist, so he often stopped what he was doing to start work on a different area of the piece that was catching his attention. Over the course of a year he finally fleshed it all out...

Beautiful, and I love what he captures in the faces of his subjects.

I bet his studio smells wonderful, too, what with all the pencil shavings.

I'll never look at those funky caricature artists the same way again.
Also, what is that hellish creature in the background of the drawing at the 5:25 mark?

Regarding the scary demonic thing in the background (was he literally referring to it as a fate or was that just what the editor of the video chose to show while he was talking about that?). You can see the version in the photograph fade into the version in the drawing at 2:18.

I love his attitude toward work, and love the drawings. Thanks for sharing.

I really like this quote by Chris in the Vimeo video (near the end):

"When you follow your dream or follow what's in your heart the universe will tend to
conspire; an opportunity will come your way and if you follow through with that
you'll become identified with that thing. It'll be the direction of the stream
that you're in." -- Chris LaPorte
