Why yes, this is very helpful. (Seriously, just this weekend I decided to turn a story into a comic script.)

Panel 1: Thanks for the links, ArtW! I've always wanted to explore the sequentially graphic art thing!

Panel 2: Oh man, comics is hard work!

Panel 3: . . .

Panel 4: [goes back to reading metafilter]

This industry is afraid of me. I have seen its true face.

Funny, I don't see "shirk your duties and lie facedown on the couch all day."

This is pretty dang amazing. I only wish I'd known of it earlier.
Months ago, at a con, I was on a panel with Peter David. We were all talking about branching out beyond the genres and formats that we were known for.
I mentioned that I wanted to investigate turning my mystery series into a graphic novel. He said "I wrote a book about that."

This is fan-fucking-tastic and could not have come at a better time for me. Thanks!

So this is what the 'Sometimes When We Touch' guy's been up to!

Also, amusing that they have TJ Krul's writing tips.

Also, horrifying that it's been almost been a decade since Fraction & Casey's Basement Tapes things. I FEEL SO VERY OLD

I figured out in conversation that the first in my very meager list of publications was EIGHT YEARS AGO. I still think of that as a recent and modern development. I am old.

Hey, right on.

I'll say this about comics: since that's become my primary artform, I kind of enjoy looking back on writing prose as something languid and easy, where they payoffs are quick.

in prose you can just say something happened and it DID happen, no need to laboriously set up scenes visually!

And if next April comes, and you still haven't gotten anywhere on your comic book script, try Script Frenzy!

Interested in writing comics?

Do I address it "Dear Mr. Top"? "Dear Carrot Top" sounds so informal.

This is perfect. I've been meaning to send The Whelk an email on behalf of a friend of mine asking about how to write a comics proposal but now I can continue being lazy instead!

Yow, what a list. Though I'm troubled that no one's written anything titled "Success, The Photoshopping-Star-Trek-Screenshots Way".

I see nothing about "POOL WOMEN CARTOON", so the list is clearly incomplete.

I always thought I couldn't write worth shit.
Now, thanks to hard work, encouragement and diligence, I see my writing is worth shit.

So, uh, thanks.

Never thought I'd be able to relate to the Cigarette-Smoking Man in the X-Files, but there ya go.

man I gotta get off my ass and send some of my stuff around the various publishers again. But first I gotta finish sending out this pile of Kickstarted books. "Self-pubish while you wait for a Real Publisher to take notice" shows up in more than a few of the links on that page about pitches and getting published!
