Sci-Fi-O-Rama is proud to present a selection of ‘far out’ imagery sequestered from the fantastically titled ‘Electrical Banana’ Psychedelic art book – and yes that title is indeed derived from a reference to a certain type of ladies sex toy.
holy shit thank you for this post! mati klarwein is blowing my mind today.

The commentary was so interesting; I just wish it had been written in English so I could understand it!
The Heinz Edelman stuff really digs up some fond memories – especially the part where I had managed to collect all the Yellow Submarine action figures by the time I was 14.

Um, kids. It's Donovan's "Mellow Yellow"
Electrical banana
Is gonna be a sudden craze
Electrical banana
Is bound to be the very next phase
They call it mellow yellow
(Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow
(Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow

'According to The Rolling Stone Illustrated Encyclopedia of Rock and Roll, [Donovan] admitted later the song made reference to a vibrator; an "electrical banana" as mentioned in the lyrics. This definition was re-affirmed an interview in NME magazine: "it's about being cool, laid-back, and also the electrical bananas that were appearing on the scene - which were ladies' vibrators."'

You had me at Heinz Edelmann.
... Edelmann explains he had little love for the Psychedelic scene and his work of the period. As the compiling authors Norman Hathaway & Dan Nadel note “Never of the scene, Edelmann instead invented it, imparting his visual language to a culture he was barely interested in”. It’s a fascinating read and you can’t help but wonder why the disdain for something so wonderful..
He might be referring to Yellow Submarine in particular, which sounds like it was a horrible pain in the ass.

Bananadrine was the real electric banana.
If you remember these rumours, you weren't really there.

Is there a phrase that refers to writing down the wrong word when transcribing, such that the sentence still makes sense spoken out loud ("half to bare", as seen in the article?)

And in Sweden we had the Electric Banana Band.
Loved by all the kids.
Off topic perhaps.

The extra connotative zing of "electrical banana" comes from the use of the adjective "electric" to indicate something dosed with acid, as in "electric kool-aid".
