She did a hilarious Over/Under (very NSFW language) with Pitchfork to promote the album.

I've been listening to this pretty much nonstop for the last couple of days, and while it has 1 or 2 songs that I don't care for, it's pretty consistently great otherwise. Where Did I Leave that Fire, Local Girl, and Man are my top 3.

Awesome. As an uncool dad person I had no idea there was a new one incoming.

So why does all good stuff come out in the fall? It is a wallet-pocalypse every year. I am already broke just from console games.

Hey, don't spread this around, but I held my tape recorder up to the computer speaker while the songs were playing. I've got a dual cassette deck with high speed dubbing and I'd be happy to send you a copy.

Shhhhhhhhh!

Lots of good Neko Case (and Kelly Hogan!) from a recent Wits show in St. Paul.

The full album title, in all its I'm-not-Fiona-Apple glory: The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You

I think love is not too strong a word to describe how I feel about Neko Case.

So why does all good stuff come out in the fall?

Tell me about it. I mean Jonathem Lethem, Margaret Atwood, J.M. Coetzee, Stephen King, Stephen Dixon, Nicholson Baker, Alice McDermott, and Thomas Pynchon (!!). ... And that's just September!

What were we talking about?

Oh yeah. Has it leaked?

“Meanwhile, Case will continue to serve as an ambassador for the Best Friends Animal Society during her promotional duties. In the month prior to the album's release, fans who make a monetary contribution to the organization for abused and abandoned animals will be able to hear multiple songs from the new album before its release. The partnership comes four years after Anti- donated $5 to Best Friends for every blog that posted Middle Cyclone's "People Got a Lotta Nerve" as a free download.” -- Billboard

B.B. King famously said that the Blues is happiness when you're sad. Listening to Neko Case is like letting me scream at the top of my lungs when I need to stay quiet.

And goddammit we're going to be out of town when she's here, and we miss her by one day when we're going to Boston.

And, lest you forget, not only is she a mind-blowing singer, but Neko will seriously pummel your fucking face if you get out of line.

I went to see Neko Case in concert once and didn't. She was too short, the crowd was too tall and the venue was too rubbish. The music was still good though.

After listening to the songs a few times on the NPR link, man, I'm really reminded of Bruce Springsteen at his most powerful, especially Man. Good stuff.
