This man and this man will be working together next year. Think this man is feeling better about his decision to quit?

Looks like the Texas Rangers ought to add a team psychologist.

Sorry. I guess baseball isn't everyone's life. King Carl Everett will be on the same team as John Rocker. If that's not entertainment, I don't know what is. Can we get some sort of reality TV show on this, like ESPN's "The Season" or HBO's Baltimore Ravens training camp documentary?

This would make a great TV show or Broadway play. Hey, is Tony Randall still alive?

So in the offseason, the woefully bad Texas Rangers- who suffered this past season from too much hitting and not nearly enough pitching- have now seen fit to add an oft-injured and mercurial CF slugger and a mentally disturbed relief pitcher of questionable effectiveness as the solution to last season's shortcomings.

Effin' brilliant, if you ask me. Add this to Giambi's trade, and it looks like my Seattle Mariner's should coast to another AL West title in 2002. Sweet! :)

I must agree that Rocker is definately worth the price of admission. And now if you are a Ranger fan you can cheer for him or boo him and get plenty of satisfaction. Sure beats watching the roof open and close or spending half an inning trying to figure out how much A Rod made during the last twenty minutes.

btw that HBO Ravens thing was a work of beauty. How often do you say that about anything regarding preseason football?

Ditto. That's such an idiotic way to concoct a thread, especially when mousing over the URLs doesn't exhibit more 'information' than what the originator posted in his/her own words.

Uh-huh. I get the complaint. In fact, I got it the first time. One could say the second complaint didn't evince any more information than the original one. Next time I'll use 100 word TITLE attributes.

In all honesty, the post was phrased that way because I was discussing it with a coworker and we kind of put a Twilight Zone intro-type voice to it. It doesn't translate well to MF (for some), but if you think of it as the beginning to a new version of "The Odd Couple" (as previously suggested), the possiblities for hilarity are endless.

Of course, I imagine you stopped by the thread just to mention how you wouldn't be looking at the link (Principal Skinner: "I was only there to get directions on how to get away from there."). Wouldn't this high-mindedness rate a MetaTalk thread, allowing this post to die a shameful, ignominious death?

I'm trying to come up with an Odd Couple dialogue for Carl and John, but all I can think of is them agreeing on evolution.

My prediction: Rangers still lose and both Everett and Rocker regularly cash their paychecks.

Major League Baseball is dead- and the Yankees have killed it...A-rod is considered to have "Yankee-like" attributes...

it is sad- these "men" don't care about the game or the fans...what happened to those wide-eyed little boys that ran out every pop fly?

MLB needs to wake up and realize that it is losing viewers due to the rampant greed and the pissing in the talent pool. take a cue from the NFL- put caps on teams and keep it competitive...only New Yorkers care to watch those high paid primadonnas...damn, and I used to respect Giambi and Mussina...no longer...

The salary cap isn't what makes the NFL competitive, and the old days of baseball often featured drunken racists not running out fly balls.

Why would you no longer "respect" Giambi and Mussina? What's changed? They were good players, they still will be good players and they leveraged that talent to their advantage. Fans are willing to pay money to see them; if they don't suck up as much of the profits as they can, it just goes to owners.

I like the odd couple references, but the last few posts regarding the NFL have swirled my few itty bitty marbles in a new direction and now I'm wondering what the NFL's odd couple would be. In place of John Rocker, I'm thinking Ryan Leaf. Can't come up with a good Everett replacement tho. Any thoughts?

John Rocker moved to Texas. That request came from his wife.

That man has been diagnosed with brain cancer. He probably doesn't care much about the Rangers at this point.

I "respect" Mark MacGuire- he bowed out when he no longer was able to enjoy the game and be a productive member- even when his market value (leverage) was irrellevant (same for Cal Ripken)...I don't think there is a player today that enjoys playing the game for the game...and MLB is to blame....there are no more Ripkens, etc...Mussina and Giambi represent the ultimate in greed- Mussina more so, as he is not as valuable or productive..."Fans" are not wiiling to pay to see these assholes (sorry I broke the curse barrier)...only New York fans are- those from the home of "win at any cost"...fans, real fans of baseball- not just one franchise, are turning away- I am one of those...thank Disney there is the NFL and the NHL...

the sickest thing of all in this debate is this: who cares? why does anyone care? teachers should parade around a stadium and whine about how they only get a 7 year deal with an option...screw that little bitch Giambi...where would his redneck, mullet (until this week) butt be without teachers (or the fans that supported him in Oakland when he was a nobody)...thanks for replying to my post- it made me realize how disgusted I am with this country...

That man has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

I know. My original post said "Think this man would rather have a tumor?" Somehow it didn't seem to fit with the spirit of the holidays.

NFL's odd couple

You've got to throw Nate Newton in there. Think that's possesion with intent to sell?

Ayukna, I'd respond, but I don't want to drive you into some sort of holiday depression. However, I can't have you saying no one plays the game for the sheer love of it. Also, Cal hung around way too long.

ok- werd on the Nomar and Cal (I'm in Baltimore, but I totally agree...he did love the game though- AND - the community...never took more money to go elsewhere...but, I digress...)

yerfatma - yer right...there are always exceptions...

again, I have wasted too much digital ink on sports- it's only a game(s) in the long run and adds nothing but clutter to our culture while speaking bounds of our priorities- and I'm guilty of the latter as well...

(sports won't ruin my holdiday - it's being ruined by massive oral surgery tomorrow and the prospect of looking for a new web director job in the new year :( )

As a Dallas native, I can't wait to go see this train wreck next year. The Rangers would be good if only they had pitching...that's been the story ever since the Yankees started pounding their asses in the Playoffs. I will go to a few games just so I can see Rocker spaz out and hopefully see Everett head-butt another ump. GM Hart has to be the dumbest businessman in the world to put those two egos in the same clubhouse.
