The producer of You're Next ( which I thoroughly enjoyed despite not liking home invasion movies) is Mefi's Own.

( and yeah when the thing you've been working on for two years gets killed or you don't get credit, and this happens more than twice ...in a row, you really just want to throw your hands up and go study mold for a living. Or ...invent a new back to basics DIy approach to horror filmmaking.)

Ended up being an interesting article but I'll admit I was totally sold by the title alone.

The article is interesting, but I want to punch whomever designed that web page.

You and me both. Never got around to finishing the article, despite a love of the genre.

Careful what careers you disparage, whelk, I'm pretty sure there's at least a couple of myxomycetologists on the Blue!

I'm pretty sure studying mold is a more honorable career then anything I've ever done

I think there's an AMAZING missed opportunity fusing DIY horror with Myxomycetology.

I actually liked that web page design. But I worry that mentioning this will make me a target for bloodlusting Mefites wearing animal masks and brandishing machetes.

And don't underestimate the plant kingdom. I have a walnuts as evil-little-brain-creatures story (titled Nutmeat) in the recent Whispers from the Abyss anthology.

I've got a video tape of a tubifex worm encystment if anybody's got a couple hundred thousand dollars, there's your diy horror film right there! No need to hire actors or scriptwriters or anything, badda-bing badda-boom done.

Somebody watch that video and let me know if its safe for me to watch it.

If you want mold and indie filmmaking, there's always Motivational Growth, featuring Jeffrey Combs as the voice of "The Mold"

The Mold has plans for the horror genre, Jack.

What's mycomixology

It's a typo. Micromixology is the study of undersized drinks, surely a horror movie we're overdue to see.

They got the name of the Faye Dunaway film Jacob Gentry directed wrong. It's Last Goodbye, not The Long Goodbye.

It's not a mold per se, but the organism that causes all the problems in Splinter is pretty creepy-crawly. The film itself is also a great example of the kind of quality you can get from a low-budget film with practical effects. There's only one main set and a tiny number of characters, but it's a lot more harrowing than many big-budget horror films I've seen.

Every time I see something about 'You're Next' I think it's a film adaptation of Hotline Miami with all the neon scraped off.

We can call it THE SPORES and its half The Crazies and half A Fruit Is A Friend

Oh man, Upstream Color could have been even better with 'A Fruit' level weirdness that ramped up throughout the final part. Altho it was pretty great as is..

It's weird to me that this long after V/H/S was shot, I'm still seeing images of my friend Hannah's face all split open and terrifying and stuff. Weird and neat.
