The iconic Bubble series was created by fashion photographer Melvin Sokolsky for the Harper’s Bazaar 1963 Spring Collection.
Haunted by a particular image from Hieronymous Bosch, Sokolsky experienced a re-occurring dream in which he saw himself floating inside a bubble across exotic landscapes. Here are some more and a Flikr set.
Simone d'Aillencourt was one of his favourite models. (Tumblr). There is more of Sokolsky's work on his website.

Very cool pics. I especially like the crew photo that shows the cabling used to suspend the bubble.
Of course, the art director in me is studying the photos closely and admiring the quality of the retouching (used to eliminate all traces of said cable)

Some things are just cooler when you know there's no way to digitally alter things.

I love seeing practical effects (is that what it's called? As opposed to digital). Coppola's Dracula had a lot of that as well.
(I confess my first thought was less Ethereal Bubble and more Human Hamster Ball)
