Friday video fun: A new subreddit Commercial Cuts is devoted to television commercials that have had small edits made to them that, um, really change the message and tone. Highlights include Lunchables, J.G. Wentworth, Bagel Bites, Febreze, and Swiffer.

Okay, the bagel bites one was pretty good.

Presumably the fact that I laughed at this Wendys one for like 3 minutes makes me a terrible person.

I don't know if this is on the subreddit, but the Folgers recut is the best imo.

In the Lunchables one, watch the kid on the left's mouth on the words "I ain't the one." Perfect.

Oh my God, that Bagel Bites one. Oh my God. Oh my God.

The funniest part of that is there's barely any editing needed there. I learned during the last Yuletide that there's over a dozen fics about that commercial on AO3.

Swiffer was low-hanging fruit but I busted a gut anyway.

Came in to say that the Febreze commercial was mis-linked to Vagisil commercial...

but nope, it really wasn't.

The Lunchables one is majestic.

Oh, it very much is (NSFWTF text).

The Swiffer one is really good, but the bit at the end needs an old black and white wedding photo, or a shot of a young Morty in a uniform.

Some of those were pretty funny.
Then I reluctantly went to the subreddit to watch some more and unfortunately watched the Domino's Pizza one and yup, that's Reddit.
(Don't watch if you are averse to hi-larious domestic abuse humour, not to mention swastikas.)

It's also offensive to people who care about comedy.

I made the same mistake. I go through cycles with Reddit: some weeks, browsing the (very few) subs I'm subscribed to gives me the impression that it's not so bad; then the next week I wind up down a rabbit hole of misogyny and childish other-hate that I'm tempted to write off as teenage hijinks, but the user's comment history indicates he's some mid-30s dude who's got kids to screw up. It's really sad.

That said, I really like pizzaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

I also just found one on the Reddit that's the exact same domestic violence joke, only it's for KFC and there's "Sweet Home Alabama" playing in the background.

Shit Reddit I have pretty low standards for you, try to meet them.

I don't get the pizza one - is it funny only because the guy is yelling pizza for a really long time, or is there some reference to something or subtext other than that? Lunchables one was great.

Depicting domestic abuse in a video, even if played for laughs, is not the same thing as thinking that actual domestic abuse is funny. In fact, the (black) humor depends on the recognition that domestic abuse is an awful thing.

I didn't think that one was especially funny either, but not because I assume that the creator is a monster.

but not because I assume that the creator is a monster

The swastikas in the video title don't exactly invite a charitable interpretation.

It isn't? Because the constant stream of posts on reddit depicting domestic abuse as trivial and humorous has led me to believe otherwise (unless of course it's domestic abuse towards men).

I was expecting the J.G. Wentworth one to be mixed with the old bra commercial where random ladies throw their bras out the window and yell, "This bra doesn't fit and I'm not going to wear it anymore!"
