I've tried googling, but I still don't get it: what's a showreel? It doesn't seem to be the thing on this site, nor does it seem to be this thing.

A showreel is a short video collecting a bunch of work by one person to advertise their services, so the two things you linked to count. But this seems to be specifically referencing tropes in 3D animators' showreels.

Looks like you can see lots and lots of these at Strictly Showreels.
