Take neat 4-colour selfies at the INTERSTELLAR SELFIE STATION

main page | press page

"What's really rad about it is that with 4 colours, it's impossible to take a super-detailed picture. None of that ridiculous ten billion megapixel shots of your pores and uneven complexion; every picture you take with it looks super-flattering, every time. #nofilters"

Yeees. I should mention, it's for you to take selfies with.

Ah, ok, I am seeing it now. Cute!

The link requires Flash, and it'll ask to use your camera, and then you'll get a fun little low-res image. (Note that if you don't have Flash running, the link that appears to the artist's main page leads to NSFW drawings.)

So I either get cute selfies OR pictures of butts or something? Best of the web, ahoy!

This is a new laptop and my first with a camera. Call me paranoid but I just can't do it. I can't give access to my camera and microphone to a stranger. Sorry. Why microphone access for a picture anyway?

They need the microphone to listen in on the commands the CIA is sending to you via the fillings in your teeth. (Well, you did ask to be called paranoid.)

convert foo.jpg -resize 50% -dither None -colors 4 foo.gif

(or, if you like, +dither, or something else...)

And if you don't have a camera and are not quite sure what's going on so you start clicking around to make something happens it gets _real_ NSFW.

Christine Love previously previously previously and previously.

Interstellar Selfie Station is going to be coming out on iOS and Android at some point and I'm SUPER EXCITED.

This is a self-post, but if you'd rather dither a image to four color CGA, you can use this shitty form or some commandline magic.

Ugh, that SNATCHER parody image is dreadful.

Flattering? With my complexion, I come out looking like an elderly banana.

As i remember flash doesn't let you request the camera without the mic. you can do mike, or mike and camera.

I might be wrong, but that's how i remember it working. I seriously doubt it's even interfacing with the mic at all.

If you have NetPBM, I think this is closer:
anytopnm infile.jpg | pnmscale -xsize 160 |\
 ppmdither -red 4 -green 4 -blue 4 | ppmtopgm |\
 pnmremap -mapfile <(echo P3 4 1 255 108 108 78 142 139 97 195 196 165 227 230 201) |\
 pnmscale -nomix 2 | pnmtopng > outfile.png
The keys are the small image size (160 px wide), ordered dither, 4-colour sepia colourmap, then a final resize to double the width and height.
