The Shack Up Inn is a hospitality institution just outside of historic Clarksdale, Mississippi. Their FAQ page helpfully provides information regarding any questions you might have about amenities, bedding quality, or Didelphimorphia reproduction.

From a shotgun shack singing Pentecostal hymns
Through the wrought iron gates to the TV room
He had a little world, it was smaller than your hand
It's a rockabilly ride from the glitter to the gloom

Oh, so that's what a shotgun shack is. For some reason I had just assumed it was some kind of shack full of shotguns. Which is perhaps a stranger place to find yourself.

That Chinese video is pretty informative. I was disappointed that they chose someone with such an absolute bog-standard Mandarin accent to do the voice-overs though. I was hoping for an extremely rural, earthy Sichuan accent or something to give the listener some idea of what the original speaker's accent was like. Bad Voice of America! -10 creativity points!

Which is perhaps a stranger place to find yourself.

Indeed. I would suppose you may say to yourself, "My God, what have I done?"

Thomas Harris's novel Red Dragon was written while Harris was holed up in a shotgun shack while his father was dying.

Ah, this is a nice appetizer before we hit the road in a couple of weeks to see my in-laws in Greenville, MS. This page also has the elegant web design of my father-in-law's angry libertarian website.

I stayed there about a decade ago. I don't recall the website being so awful, but they had all of the important amenities: beer, live music, and a mini Moon Pie on your pillow.

My understanding has always been that they are called shotgun shacks because the doors line up front to back. If they were all open you could shoot a shotgun straight through the house.

Sorry, I'm having trouble calibrating. Is this a joke site of some kind? I'm having one of my days when I can't tell when people are kidding or not.

The Shack Up Inn is very real and very awesome. (Latter is personal opinion, of course.)

Looks like the sort of place where you can't touch the second shelf in the refrigerator, because that's where the owner keeps their rootbeers and their double-thick Oreo cookies.

"The Ritz we ain't"
Uh, yeah. I think I got that one on my own, but thanks.

Totally off-topic, but I'm surprised the Once in a Lifetime video hasn't been turned into omnipresent animated GIFs. It's as if it were designed for it.
