It's difficult to improve upon perfection

It may have taken him over ten years to do it, but Tommy Wiseau has finally followed up on his cult hit "The Room" (previously). "The Neighbors" originally existed as some rarely seen footage Wiseau shot in 2004 (only the wacky trailer was ever released to the public). Cut to ten years later when a newly shot pilot for a "Neighbors" TV series (Official website and trailer) has been making the rounds in big cities across the country to give Wiseau fans the follow up they have been craving. Both the Gothamist and the AV Club weigh in on the show (with a bonus AV Club interview with Wiseau).

Tommy Wiseau seems to have something akin to face-blindness but instead of faces it is the entire world of human experience that he cannot recognize.

SPOON!

That AV Club interview ranks up there with the Dave Sim and Udo Kier interviews.

Tommy Wiseau underwear? NO THANK YOU. That Neighbors jacket, though...

Why do those trailers seem like bad 80s porn with the sex taken out. I'm pretty sure I can find better acting on one of the Cinemax softcore movies.

I read that AV Club interview. It was painful to read at times. More than just the accent, he seemed incomprehensible at certain points. Particularly at the end. What's the deal with him freaking out of the John line of questions.

Baltimore/DC mefites, there are screenings this month in DC at the E Street Cinema!

Is that the real trailer or a joke? I am legitimately unsure.

Yeah, I simply can't imagine a better match of actor to material than that.

What exactly was the John the Assistant joke that got him so mad? I didn't get that. I thought maybe it would be explained in the comments but didn't have time to sift through them.

Surely you realize that's the point? The Room is like if you took a Skinemax flick and inverted the dialogue-to-sex ratio.

Tommy Wiseau has a fake assistant John that handles his correspondence. My friend interviewed him, and said that all the emails to set up the interview came from John, but were written in the distinct style of TW.

He still has his phone number.

> I am legitimately unsure.

You could say this about everything Tommy Wiseau has ever done, and Tommy Wiseau himself.

That dog was the best actor in The Room.

Chris-R honestly was the best actor, or at least gave the best performance.

(note: no, I'm not that Chris R. But damn, what a weird experience in the credits...)

It's true. He's the only person in The Room who comes across like he's acted before or might ever act again or even heard of acting.

AVC: A character says “fuck” at some point.

TW: Okay, so we have substitute for it. We don’t say that. We say “F you,” that’s it.

Brilliant! How'd he ever come up with that?!

So there's this chain of clothing stores over here in the UK...and I blame Tommy Wiseau for the fact that I am constitutionally incapable of walking through a British shopping center without saying "Oh, Primark!".

AVC: So what would it be like to give up creative control?

TW: You have to be realistic, that’s how TV works. You have to compromise. I’m a very compromise person. I do not control freak.
OH GOD

I read the AV Club interview yesterday having only a passing familiarity with Mr. Wiseau and then spent about 10 minutes trying to get back to being a productive member of society. The world in general needs a refresher from Paul Anka about "Just Don't Look".

potsmokinghippieoverlord: "I'm still waiting for the full version of this ad to surface online."

I think that video was mentioned in Sestero's Disaster Artist book. Wiseau kept calling him in LA asking about the rules to get into the actor's union, and eventually showed up having produced his own 'ad' just to gain membership.

I went to the DC screening on Saturday night and enjoyed "The Neighbors" a lot more than the AV club reviewer. I think it would be a shame if Adult Swim didn't pick this show up. I am serious.

Also, because I came wearing a red dress, Tommy Wiseau himself gave me a free "The Room" beanie!
