"We saw some kind of cat witch who came out to feed them."

Now I know what I want to be when I grow up.

No shops? How does a tourist attraction like this not get overrun by commerce?

My goodness, they could come film at my house, a corner of Minneapolis where One Cat Holds Sway Over All. Various cat witches (known locally as "food apes") periodically issue forth to cast various kinds of fish and fish-related food into the maw of the Great Old Cat One.

(Actually, yesterday we found out that the cat will deign to accept small bits of pate de campagne even though it's not fish. That was pretty exciting.)

At first I was like "oh they must mean Enoshima", then I saw the photos. Nope! That's a fuckload of cats! Enoshima has a bunch of feral cats but nothing like that, Jesus. Can you imagine what that place must sound like at night?

Anyways so I guess Japanese Cat Islands are a thing.

Objection. Cats rule all of Japan.

A corner of Japan where cats rule: a corner of Japan where dogs drool?

It must be Aoshima Island Day!

Reuters must be their source, because the BBC's on the ball too.

It just struck me that these old timey media giants still think their readers are their readers i.e. they don't get news from any other sources, just like in the old days when I had molars in my mouth and didn't need to suck on a crisp to soften it first.

How did cats get to this island? Hm. Hmm... HMMM!!!

Else they're tired of losing traffic to rando tumblrs on a dress and thus putting out bait to attract the axe murderers on the interwebz who will go anywhere for a kitteh pic?

I like how this is edited to transition from "that doesn't seem like very many cats" to "WHOA THAT IS A LOT OF CATS."

Probably. On the upside, the rats they were brought in to eradicate are probably gone, too.

I've read about this place before (I think right here on the blue) and I don't understand why nobody's built a guesthouse. Take my money, cat island! Take it all!

I don't know. I just imagine this island has a certain smell...

I too imagine my atheist heaven as a place not too dissimilar to this. But I gotta wonder: is there no spaying/neutering on this island? Bc as much as I love the kittehs, it isn't good that they breed out of control (e.g., what happens to them when the last cat witch dies?!).

Outdoor cats = fleas, lice, ticks (unless you dose them with flea medicine)

300 outdoor cats = me running away
