I think it was legally required that that one of those posters be on the wall of every college CAD lab. At least in the early 1990's.

There is also the Department of Agriculture's "Cocktail Construction" technical drawing from 1974. Might it have been the inspiration for the AutoCAD test document? A lot of the symbols are the same.
