Ya Momma So Black...

"Ya momma so..." If you're African-American — or grew up in or near an African-American community — that phrase is probably familiar to you. It's part of playing "the dozens" or "snapping," a black tradition of trading insults with someone where anything goes." “Ya Momma So Black” takes the childhood dozens joke and and erases the humor. Instead, Justice puts Blackness on its pedestal, and traces heritage back to the fertile crescent. He also looks respectfully at maternity, femininity, and race in this indictment of an age-old schoolyard joke."

I'm not black, male, and I dont like rap, and I didn't click on this with a whole lot of high expectation.

This may not be mine, but it's beautiful and I love it.

Agreed, that went down like smooth drink on a chaotic day, cutting through all the bullshit with refreshing razor.

J-Live is great. He was an elementary school teacher at least through his first album and definitely has a good perspective. Does his own beats and scratching as well.

A couple other tracks you might like:
Them That's Not
Wax Paper
Longevity

Dude has been around a while.

J-Live! How did I forget about him? He's my idea of real hip-hop. Glad to see he's still doing his thing. This is a great track.

Seeing leotrotsky's comment at the top, I only now realized that the darker version of the thumb up emoji looks more like a leather glove than a human hand, thanks to pigment on the partially visible palm area, at least on OS X and iOS.
