That's okay! A cat who isn't looking at you is perfectly oriented to turn into a totoro.

I'm not sure entirely why you're not facing your cat to put the pieces on but maybe switching to less delicious pieces of paper would help?
I asked my cat if she would let me do this and she said no. I'll see if I can convince her to change her mind.

The partner was helpfully placing the paper/taking picture while the cat was being snuggly on me. You can barely see it, but I have another piece of paper in my hand to try and tempt him with so he stops trying to eat the eyes/holds his head in the right position.
Unfortunately, the cats are at the tail end of a diet and *every* piece of paper (and, as we discovered this morning, heel of bread left in a baggy on the counter) looks absolutely delicious.
