i don't know who insisted on naming those spaghetti donuts but they are bagels not donuts as they are clearly savory!!! i don't know why this makes me so mad but it does!!!!

that said, spaghetti is my favorite munchies food and i would certainly be willing to try it in a more portable form even though i suspect the texture is horrifying

More evidence live in the End of Days.

(I really want Classic Halo Halo right now, though.)

All I want in life right now is that ice cream sandwich made with horchata ice cream and churros.

The Burger Supreme, which you may know from its stint as a pop-up at Mission Chinese, is serving a simple but perfect "griddle-steamed" Fleishers beef patty, cooked medium rare, with melted American cheese and a mustard-based sauce on a potato roll.

Steamed hams!

Not as mad as the name "smorgasburg" makes me :-)

(but that's more "you're hipsters, surely you could find some diaereses/umlauts/rings if you wanted to" than a sweet/savory misclassification.)

Food truck tartare sounds like playing E.coli roulette.

Kinda disappointed it isn't an actual place name. Ahh yes, here was where the early Swedish settlers built their sandwich castle

The difference between donuts and bagels are that bagels are boiled and baked, while donuts are just straight-up fried, no? They can't be spaghetti bagels if they were deep-fried.

The spaghetti donut is essentially a handheld, seemingly egg-ier version of something my Italian grandmother used to make, which we called macaroni cake. It was made with bucatini rather than spaghetti, which was part of the magic. She would fry it up in olive oil on one side, then heroically flip it with a plate to do the other side - it was probably 3-4 inches thick, like a cake. Terribly simple recipe, but nobody who has tried to recreate it since she died has really been able to - that's nostalgia, to a degree, but not untrue. I used to tease my mother she should open a little stand or truck and make it. So it goes.

So a variation of a "macaroni casserole", basically? (of which there are a million variations since everyone does it differently.)

Was your grandma named Margie, btw?

Can we talk about those incredible French Fries they had at Smorgasburg last October when I was touristing?

If it's not pouring rain, I may feel the need to go to Smorgasburg on Sunday.

Spaghetti donuts? You can't fool me; I know it's April 1.

More seriously, an acquaintance was at this same media preview and reports back that the spaghetti doughnut things weren't great but the fruit things were pretty good.

In my experience, there is always mediocre gimmick food there that nevertheless inspires huge lines because it is Instagram-friendly or something.

There is always some genuinely food there as well, but it's a personal preference whether the lines, lack of seating, and elemental forces are worth it. I haven't tried the Prospect Park one yet, but having lots of grass to sit on and trees to sit under seems preferable to previous incarnations held in big concrete lots. The organizers are moving Brooklyn Flea back to the East River State Park one this year, which I assume will double the crowd size.
