"Hey my name's Dave, and I'm actually a rapper, and we were making a music video about how we made the most epic rap video ever on no money and I was wondering if we could come in to you home/boat/car dealership & get a few shots?"

Mrs. K would like you to make a donation to PlannedParenthood.org.

So FIRST OF ALL I just became a monthly donor to Planned Parenthood in recognition of Mrs "K". For reals.

Next, I liked the video on YouTube. Then I shared the living daylights out of it (on all the channels where I share stuff with curse words, hey I work with young students). Most epic rap video, indeed. Because that riff at the end about the worth of ice and getting double charged for an iced coffee refill JUST BLEW MY MIND.

Gave my click to T-Pain in recognition of his generosity in sharing his music video shoot. The funny thing is "Make it Work" has the same premise as "Save Dat Money", except instead of borrowing other people's nice stuff via yr white privilege the theme of T-Pain's video is to make the best of whatever is on hand.

This is possibly the whitest music video I have ever seen except for Weird Al's White and Nerdy.

His wikipedia page says he's a comedian, so.

Hah, wow, a Lil Dicky post that isn't deleted! Finally!

Love this guy's style. Pillow Talking is insane.

I've discovered that most of my favorite rap is about fiscal responsibility. My personal favorite is "Large Amounts" by Ludacris. I like how he digresses to point out that you should make sure to pay your taxes.

The name of the T-Pain video he leeches off of is downright uncanny.

Kinda antisemetic? Jewish rapper likes to save money - har har. Jokes about someone's mezuzah (ie a fellow Jew should be on board with his saving money idea); jokes about being a "kike" at the end. Video with snoop dog is more explicit; cartoon of Jewish kid with piles of bar mitzvah money looks like something out of a Pepe comic. I dunno - I guess he's apparently part of the group he's making fun of, so that makes it OK(?), but does not sit well with me.

I thought the video was specifically about the excess you commonly see in rap videos, and the Snoop video is, in part, autobiographical. That's just from some casual googling I did, so I could be wrong. In any event, I'm Jewish and it didn't occur to me that it was anti-Semitic or directed at Jews. Although self-deprecation is a very common theme in Jewish humor so maybe that's a consideration. OTOH, I love a good bargain and free stuff, and I hate to think that if I talked about that, people would assume it's obviously because I'm Jewish.

Yeah, I'm not lighting torches and rallying pitchforks, etc., it just read that way to me. The lyrics expressly refer to being Jewish, though, so I think it's fair to ask whether the humor depends in part on stereotype.

No, I understand! I put my perspective out because I'd be happy to admit I missed something else. But I see now why the posts would have been a problem, especially if they only stood for a minute or two.

All good, I'm not advocating deleting or anything like that - just opining, as we do.

Jokes about someone's mezuzah

The funniest part of that was him knowing what it was, pronouncing it correctly, and then trying to play it off like, or ya know whatever it is

I saw the theme as a play on Macklemore's Thift Shop (and famously 'antisemetic' performance thereof in black curly wig and fake Jew nose). Thrift Shop was enormously successful. If Macklemore can make money rapping about saving money, and portray a cartoon Jew in the live performance, why can't an actual Jew make money on this theme?
