Of all the (mostly sonic-related) rumors I remember from my earliest days on the Internet, this one is the craziest one to actually turn out to have some truth in it.

Re: crazy video game rumours: my personal favourite is that the Pirates of the Caribbean movies started as adaptations of The Secret of Monkey Island.

There's some strong similarities between Barbossa and LeChuck, Will Turner and Guybrush Threepwood, and Elizabeth Swann and Governor Marley. And the coffin boat to the voodoo lady's hut feels like a direct lift.
