Pacific Rim: Amara, a collaboration between LINE Webtoon and Legendary Comics, (free to read here) is an official prequel to Pacific Rim Uprising that tells the origin story of Amara (played in Uprising by Cailee Spaeny). "As the Kaiju Wars rage on, Pacific Rim: Amara follows the young heroine whose life shattered when she is orphaned during a devastating monster attack. Fighting to survive as her city is destroyed, she finds shelter with a grumpy mech-inventor named Kai and his closest companion, Hannah. The trio forms an unlikely family in the aftermath of the invasion, looking out for one another and scavenging old mech parts to build their very own Jaeger, a pilotable giant robot with the power to protect Amara from the monsters that took everything from her."

Updates every Friday.

Creators:
Writers- Cavan Scott (Star Wars, Doctor Who, Vikings, Star Trek, Judge Dredd) & Zhang Ran (Ether, Rising Wind City)
Art- BigN (Night Owl Bookstore, Special Repair of the Village, Deep in the Forest, Clearsky City)

Graeme Macmillan:
"The series, which will be released online every Friday, is the result of a collaboration between LINE Webtoon and Legendary Comics, which is also publishing a second prologue to Uprising, Pacific Rim Aftermath (also written by Scott).

“This was an exciting adventure from beginning to end with a global creative team,” said Robert Napton, editorial director of Legendary Comics, in a statement. “We are delighted with the results of producing our first comic with this international team from China and the U.K., and we have found the perfect distribution partner in Webtoon. Our story deepens the understanding and appreciation of not only the character of Amara, but also her homemade Jaeger Scrapper. It’s an origin story that adds yet another layer to Pacific Rim, and dives into the world of Mech Racing. I hope fans enjoy it!”

Not bad, but the art was underwhelming and the format beyond annoying.

Well, that guts her story from the movie. Plus, we’re all dying from kaiju, our world is under attack, crumbling, and will never be the same, but woman, get in the kitchen and fix the kid a sammich after you make the kid stop crying.

Wait, so I get that she would have had to learn engineering from someone, but the thing the movie uses as proof that she's a prodigy was actually built by someone else that she never mentions, let alone credits?
