Those shrooms will creep up on you

What if Mario moved like one of the Bloopers or Jellyfish? What if the entire Mushroom Kingdom was made of that same undulating flesh, quivering and pulsing unsettlingly beneath the flailing boot or diving face of a lurching, heaving plumber? What if you could play... Jelly Mario? (via RPS)

Whoa. The movement is kind of disturbing but compelling.

I thought this was going to be this.

I don't know what this is, but it pegged my CPU to 99% until I closed the tab.

Thought I had mastered the technique of just continuously jumping, which lets you pulsingly somersault your way all the way across the board -- but now I've somehow got Mario's head firmly lodged inside a brick platform and he's just dangling there gruesomely

Basically I just accidentally lynched my plumber

Looks like I picked the wrong game to stop sniffing glue.

how do you actually start this I am clicking on the mushroom with my mouse and I am using the arrow keys and neither thing works help

The arrow keys should glorp your Mario around - the mushroom you want to bump is on the right side of the start screen, with an arrow pointing.

Not really a finished game yet but there are some lovely bits here. I love how Mario is made out of individual little blocks with their own physics. That carries over to level 2, the blue level, where the bricks that make up the walls come apart in little pieces. I also like the flag physics.

But the really brilliant thing is the way the music playback speed is synced to your forward motion. It's super unsettling.

The bricks-coming-apart thing appears limited to one spot? I noticed there all the bricks came apart because they were modeled as individual units, but most of the level wasn't like that (which would probably be processor intensive).

The performance of this game is really surprisingly good considering what they're doing. It looks like every pixel of every contiguous object is an element of a soft-body simulation. Also level 1-2 shows that I am bad at this game.

Fans of jelly should also try Jelly Truck.

Took more than a minute to reach the first warp zone (through the side of the pipe!? WTF?)

This is wonderfully bonkers.

I wonder if most of the time, objects are modeled simply (e.g. as one rigid body) but on collision with another body they get subdivided into pixel-sized physics objects with springy joints.

AHAHA all I can do is scootch awkwardly sideways though I did manage to knock all the letters on the Welcome screen terribly askew and it's allll sooo slooow but hilarious and I can't stop giggling

I managed to start the first level but got my head stuck in a brick and couldn't escape. I feel like this is a metaphor for something but I'm not sure what.
